Actually upon second though, the coin looks beat to hell on the reverse. I'm going to say AU Details.

there are a coins, b coins and c coins. but my thought is that doesn't tell the whole picture for 60. c is for the lesser coins that aren't good for the grade? doesn't tell the whole picture. i say there are d through z coins too. this is maybe a MS60f but for the gouges under(right of) " N I" in united
c'mon! remove every other hit and tell me if it would straight grade with marks as deep as those!

95% of the time, it would. Those marks are not that deep at all for a double eagle, and the other 5% of the time, it will details for a different reason entirely.
No wear so MS but too many bag marks for anything higher than a 60.

The interesting thing about double eagles to me is that they can be heavily bag marked and still look good. Even better is that they are always worth quite a bit.

Quite a few bagmarks, and has that almost been cleaned look to me. Could go either way. But I’ve experienced DE’s with many hits on otherwise clean surfaces that garnered a 63+ grade, so you never know. This isn’t that coin. MS60 is what I would expect.
58, there is wear min the fields and high points that should knock it out of 61. Notice the halo sound star 5, that is field friction not bag chafing. Her brow and cheek have it too. Big coins get a pass sometimes but CCs take a big jump in UNC so I would be semi shocked if it got 61
AU-55. It has lots of luster, but lots of small marks too.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
I see it as MS from the posted image. However, I would like to see in hand just to see the surfaces and color as I could be persuaded to call it a 58 if there are issues not quite captured in the image. I see it as a reasonable coin for the date/type.

This $20 gold is in an AU-58 holder. It was graded over 20 years ago.
This one is graded AU-55, CAC. It's been graded within the last 10 years.

Yeah, I first thought 58 or 61 but it compares pretty nicely to this ‘89 bullion DE I picked up a while back, although mine has a bit stronger luster.

Better than 55, I’ll bite at 58. Bagmarked up as per usual.
Well, just Love coins, period.

AU -58 to as high as Ms-61.

Looks like the right grade. Dont see to many 60's. They really stretched.

Could someone please help me understand how the 1875-CC graded MS60 even though there’s detail missing on the hair?
look at the reverse and realize it's not the best strike. if you look closely at the full sized images you'll see roller marks that weren't struck out
Only bag marks, no wear.

As-struck hair detail is inconsequential with softly struck coins below gem grades, and CC 20's tend to have a touch of softness. It's mores the type 2 design if you look at coin facts, much less detailed than a type 1. This example doesn't really have any flatness or loss of detail due to wear, but it sits right on the AU/UNC line depending on how one wants to interpret the fields and abrasions as a whole. It's a slightly below average strike for a 75-cc, and you see some blobby-ness in the stars, but most of the radial lines are defined. Also, similarly to a PL Morgan, 75-ccs and other gold often come with a bit of reflectivity that enhances the appearance of contact marks. Type 2 is my least favorite rendition of the $20 lib, almost entirely because of the changes to the hair detail.

Looks like only 3 of us got it right. Zack
How do you explain the lack of luster in the cheek if the coin is Mint State? The first photo showed rubs in the field and on the face.
Maybe CC $20 gold pieces are like CC Morgan Dollars. Some of then get grading breaks.
I think it’s less about clemency and more about subjectivity. MS-60’isnt exactly a “gift”…if it weren’t in a green holder, I’d probably try again to get a 58 that has a shot at a sticker.

I think the majority of the group got it right with a call of slider, or 58/61, imo. Ms60 is a slider.
Agreed here. In fact, I believe a 58 with CAC and eye appeal has more of a shot at selling for more than a regular MS-60.

That is one attractive 89... Excellent addition
