All time favorite impulse buy
What is your all time favorite impulse buy?
Mine has to be a two coin holder picked up in August 2023 for the low price of $354. Every time I look at the pair I am in awe. The Peace dollar is my favorite silver dollar and amidst the hoopla around the 2023 Peace and Morgan issues I could not pass up the two coin deal since I missed the boat on the 2021 releases. I felt like I got the 2021 for free!

Someone listed this Shawnee silver dollar in the wrong category on eBay. I took a liking to it and pulled the trigger. Ended up completing the BU/PF sets for Shawnee and Poarch Creek Nations silver dollars. It was a pleasant diversion away from the crazy expensive stuff.

Hell, about half of my collection is impulse buys.
I like this one every time I look at it. It's raw and has been messed with but it sure is pretty.

This one best fits the definition of “impulse” …. At the time I wasn’t looking to dig deep into my wallet, but it came up and I just KNEW I’d regret it if I didn’t pull the trigger. G-6, CAC’d, fairly nice planchet for the issue, “relatively” affordable. No regrets.
Other passions include golf, Moto Guzzi motorcycles, and Euro motorcycles in general.

I had been looking at early American Type, other than copper, and came to the realization that a 1790's Dollar was probably a bit out of my budget at the time... but then I saw this one for the princely sum of ~$150... circulated around the same time and probably has a bunch of stories to tell...

I've made several impulse buys for coins outside of my collecting interests, but the best in terms of return on my 'investment' has to be this raw 1895-S Morgan purchased for half retail 17 years ago that recently sold for 420% over my purchase price.

This isn’t quite an impulse buy, but I think counts for this thread. I was looking for the 1934-D VAM 4, but when the opportunity came up to purchase this VAM 3/VAM 4 pair from a forum member I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Plus, it’s a double holder like the OP!

This issue is almost always poorly struck. When I noted all the detail on this one, along with its eye appeal, I had to buy it! The VF35 part is irrelevant.

Edited to add…considering that all of the coins in my permanent collection are gold, I don’t really make impulsive purchases. There’s certainly a process involved.
I do however occasionally make impulsive purchases on stuff I intend to flip.1 -

I’m sure we all have a “few”, but here’s one of my newest ones. My philosophy is and has been for quite some time now, if you see it and love it, buy it. For if you don’t, someone else will and it will be gone forever. You’ll kick yourself in the ass every day. I personally remember the nice ones that got away after I waited too long to purchase them, and then they were gone.

I don't have a picture handy, but a 1943 gold 50 peso.
I saw it listed on eBay as a bin along with some other reasonably good priced gold coins listed and I started doing some price checking.
Every time I went back to the page to look at what I researched it was GONE...I snagged the 1943 gold 50 peso and at a great price.
Worth 3x today, wish I could have bought more.2 -

This was an impulse buy, actually both were. Altogether about $5 K going . I really cant help myself. I can afford it...barely.
