No gold, but my brother found both 1877 and a 1909-S Indian cents over the course of a few years. The ‘77 was crusty and corroded. The ‘09-S was a a bit dark with xf details and he traded it to a local dealer for a $10 Indian.

I have never found a gold coin.
Of all the detectorists I know, probably 2% have found a gold coin. Only two guys found several, the first guy found one in a public park, later some in a garden and a few years ago about 40 in the ruins of a house which burned down over 80 years ago.
The second guy found 4 or 5 individual coins, all around Augsburg.
But even the most dedicated detectorists are not guaranteed to find gold. One of my friends is self-employed and over the past 20+ years has spent about two full days per week metal detecting and researching new permissions.
It took him 8 years to find his first gold ring and he still has not found any gold coin...

Never a gold coin, but rings and jewelry from the beach. In the river at Brown's Ferry bridge outside of Georgetown ,SC was a saloon. It was basically training ground for black water diving. Alot of artifacts including a gold coin and Calvary saber hilt. Cannot remember if it was found on land or river.

Never found gold and don’t have a metal detector (though I think it would be a lot of fun), but did recently find a hoard of coins unexpectedly. We went to cades cove recently and they have an old mill. People over the years have thrown coins in the trough (which we left alone), but my daughter saw a coin sticking out of the dirt/leaves next to it. She picked it up and saw another under it. There were TONS of old dirty coins that looked like they’ve been there a long time. Literally layers upon layers of coins. We all filled our hands with them then rinsed them in the creek. There were tons more but we couldn’t carry anymore. Our theory was over the years some would wash out in the cracks in the trough and get buried under the leaves and dirt. My girls have had fun trying to sort and see what all we found.

I found a big hunk "medal" collecting.

I was throwing out a bunch of mint and proof set boxes and one of the old Australian kangaroo prf set boxes had some apparently collectible things attached to it. One looked like a gold plated thin medallion sunk deep into it. Much to my surprise it turned out to be a 3/4 Oz of 10K gold with the mint name stamped into it. At today's prices it's worth nearly as much as I paid for the whole set. I've found small amounts of gold in poundage and mixed lots but the rest barely adds up to anything at all. There was a genuine gold CA restrike 50c gold piece in nice condition among some junk tokens I bought as well. All together it's perhaps half an Oz.

I also found a hunk of very high grade gold ore with a metal detector many years ago. It's a couple ounces but its real value comes from the fact it's a very rare form of gold and is valuable to mineral collectors. It's probably another 1/4 OZ.

I guess that's a lot more than My fair share.

Back in ~1969 I found a 1908 indian cent in a farmer's field. What made it interesting is that even though it was lightly corroded and worthless it was obviously uncirculated condition when it was lost I believe the land was originally part of a 720 acre tract much of which was never farmed before a large part of it was traded to the grandfather of its then current owner around 1908.

I've always wanted to train a falcon to return discs of metal to me.

I have found 2 different gold earring and a 10k garnet ring. The real gold of metal detecting is my collection of rusty bottle caps and pop tops. Those I have found in the millions

Coin wise a few buffs and a couple of modern silver coins and a barber dime and a slick trime. Over maybe 10 years of trying, it hasn’t been a horribly rewarding venture for me
