True Dat A 4-1 series win is out the window for OKC (but not Indy).
Wearing my Carnack The Magnificent hat (boy am I old; for those not familiar with Carnack ................................., Just Google It) I can now confidently predict that the NBA Finals will finish at either 4-1 (with Indy winning, 4-2 (with Indy or OKC winning), or 4-3 (with Indy or OKC winning).
With so manyt urnoverslftime I abandoned the gamehind I absndonrrs in the first half by the Pacers and behindandoned the game.
Coors Light or Dos Equis ?
Neither. I have been having trouble with my phone of late. Seems to be a delay at times when I type. Some letters show up, others don't. Then I am typing again and it goes over what finally showed up on a delay. Seems okay now.

Mathurin subs into the game with .44 left in regulation and OKC up two and proceeds to have a complete meltdown. On two seperate defensive possessions he fouls the guy he's covering before the ball is thrown into play giving the Thunder a FT each time, which they make. Then he misses 3 of 4 of his own FTs on the other end. That 5pt swing was pretty much the difference in this game.
Someone needs to do a wellness check on the Orlando Magic GM, he might have completely lost his marbles. Four unprotected first round picks plus a pick swap for Desmond Bane is crazy. He'll improve the Magic's 3pt shooting but that type of trade package is what you give up for a top 10-20 superstar and I wouldn't put Bane in that group. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45517668/sources-grizzlies-trade-desmond-bane-magic-blockbuster-deal
I'd say it was more Indy's lackadaisical passing in the 4th quarter than it was their defense. They scored 30pts overall in the quarter but had 7 turnovers that led to 11pts by OKC. The Pacers lost this game by 11.
Their season will be on the line on Thursday night so its probably going to be a pretty entertaining game.
Yeah, its not looking to good for Indiana right now especially if Haliburton will be hampered at some level on thursday night with a calf strain. The league inadvertently did the Pacers a favor by dragging out this series where he'll have an extra day of rest before G6. We'll see if it makes a difference.
I hope Indiana saved some of those points for Sunday night. I noted last week that felt it would go 7 games so not surprised. However, was surprised at Indianas dominance. If this was it for the Pacers they gave the fans a great sendoff.

That was horrible timing for that Tyrese Haliburton injury, add his name to the list of star players whose 25/26 season that will likely be shortened, if not missed entirely, while dealing with an Achilles injury. That had to be a disappointing ending for the Pacers after what had been a pretty memorable overall playoffs run.

Tatum & Haliburton were both part of deep playoff runs last season then both went to play on Team USA and its possible it was just too much wear & tear on their lower body. 🤷♂️
Haliburton did just play in a career high amount of games this past season, including playoffs.

IIRC it happened in the Finals that GS lost to Toronto. That series also saw Klay Thompson go down with an ACL tear and during his rehab from that injury he also tore his Achilles which made him miss multiple seasons.
Just making it this point of the season and winning the Finals is a war of attrition. Kudos to OKC for having luck on their side in that regard. Their HC & GM are both from my area so it’s cool to see them come out on top this time around.
Congratulations to OKC. It's almost as though the fans are cheated when key players are out due to injury, but as I've said in other threads, sometimes the Championship is won by the team which stays healthy.

Grats to the Thunder for winning Game 7 and the title.
When Indiana went on a mini run to tie the game in the 3rd quarter at 56 (or 58?) I thought that the game would remain nip and tuck to the finish. Little did I know that OKC turned on the afterburners and sprinted to a 21 point lead. With about 5-6 minutes to go Indiana cut the lead from about 18 points to 10 points. I then thought that maybe, just maybe OKC would allow the Pacers to tie up the game again and make for a final shot to win the game nail biter. I was wrong again.

Those two trades alone saves Boston over 180M in tax savings and gets them under that dreaded 2nd apron, which now gives them some breathing room to retool the roster for when Tatum gets back.

Jrue Holiday's Reaction To Surprising Celtics Trade Revealed

Veteran guard Jrue Holiday was reportedly "pissed" that he was traded by the Boston Celtics to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the team's cost-cutting efforts, longtime Celtics reporter Steve Bulpett wrote via Heavy.com on Tuesday (June 24).
I don't see what Jrue really has to gripe about, he helped Boston win a championship and then the team thanked him by signing him to a 4yr/134M contract at the age of 34. Boston's front office caught a lot of flack for giving a guy his age that type of extension as a reward for helping them win a ring but the team was grateful.
He may not be happy that he got sent to Portland but odds are that he never evens suit up for the Blazers and likely gets rerouted to a contender that needs a good glue guy. Similar to the trade out of Milwaukee that saw him land with Boston through Portland the first time.
edit: Year one in Boston he shot a career high from 3 (42%) and got voted 2nd team All-Defense. Year two his 3pt% dropped significantly (35%) and didn't look anywhere close to being the same type of defender as year one. Like Tatum & White, Jrue had also played for Team USA in the Olympics last summer which probably played into his decline.
Lonzo Ball Trade:
The Cavaliers traded Isaac Okoro to the Bulls for Lonzo Ball. This move addresses the Cavaliers' need for point guard depth, especially with Darius Garland recovering from surgery.
That's pretty much a lateral move unless Lonzo can get back close to pre-injury form. If he does then he'd be a clear upgrade at less money than Okoro.
Between this trade and Sam Merrill getting a 4yr extension it might mean that Ty Jerome might not be re-signed.
"The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly waiving point guard Damian Lillard and will stretch the remaining $113 million of his contract in order to sign free agent center Myles Turner, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday (July 1).
Lillard, 34, suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in April, which ruled him out for the remainder of the 2025 NBA playoffs."

Didn't take long for the Grizzlies to sign him.

@erikthredd
"He was really good coming off of that Cavs bench last season."
True - but the only thing you ever heard mention from the area sports news was his horrible playoff disappearance. So there was no way the Cavs were going to try to resign him at his price.
I'm really digging what the Nuggets & Rockets have both done over this past week plus. Denver trades for Cam Johnson & a pretty good backup big in Jonas Valanciunas, then signs two good 3&D wings in Bruce Brown & Tim Hardaway Jr. Houston basically goes all-in after the KD trade by adding Clint Capela & Dorian Finney-Smith while retaining six starters/key rotation players. Hopefully Houston has better luck trying to win with KD than his previous two stops in Brooklyn & Phoenix.
Sad to see San Antonio steal away C's backup big Luke Kornet but happy to see him finally get that big payday, he definitely earned. Al Horford might be soon out the door too. 😔
