I will drill in and take pics. At first I was bummed but then I look at some commons and they are pretty darn snazzy. I was a 3 day bachelor at the time and tore it up....literally. Life is good!!
I still need to get caught up on taking a few pics.
In the meantime, an old friend from school years is visiting today and we are going to tackle this vending box. We were both born in 1970.
This Series includes plenty of HOFer All-Star subset cards, like Carl Yastrzemski, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Johnny Bench and Juan Marichal, along with singles of Willie Stargell, Hank Aaron, Rollie Fingers, Tony Oliva, Bob Gibson, Joe Morgan and Larry Bowa RC.
The vintage vending breaks are so much fun, but the results can be a lot like trying to acquaint yourself with the prettiest girl in high school - she's either gonna make your day or break your heart. I hope you got a few nice gems in there.

I always really liked the 70 set for it's minimalist simplicity, but the photos seemed sort of washed out. I don't know if it was the photo or the choice of the light gray border.

Do you videotape your breaks too or just snap photos? Thanks for sharing.
I did video the 58 Brown pull once I slightly slid the second card down and could tell Brown was next in line as suspected. That's the only time. Actually, my wife was with me and she took that video.
Photos are easier for me. I just use my cell phone.
Need a Wilbur Wood who started both games of a DH back in 1973…finished 24-20…that season. He did so…on 7/20/73 against the Yankees….losing both games!

45 MPH knuckle balls. Even with today's handling of pitchers, they'd let them go over 200 pitches before pulling them.

376.2 innings pitched in 1972
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Wilbur Wood had an amazing stretch from 1968-1974. He averaged 62 games pitched a season with 256 innings pitched and had just a 2.78 ERA with a 1.149 WHIP. He had 1700+ innings pitched in a 7 year period which is more than most 21st century starters careers

11 Fingers, Dennys, and Morgans, nice. I hope you got 11 Aarons too!
I only got a portion of the 5th series so what I got was doubled up. I got neither of the Aaron's or the Bench AS. I really wanted to pull the base and AS Aaron's but no cigar.

How is the overall condition of the cards? Are they centered? Do most look like PSA 9 candidates?

I've got a good stack of sleeved up commons that are nicely centered and will plan to share a pic.

I wonder if that's why certain All Star cards are tougher. If they were produced in a different batch then maybe they also had a different cutting quality that made them off center more frequently.
Series 5 was cards #460 thru 546 (and a DP checklist). His vending box seems to only including half the series which came from the right half of the 264 card sheet.

In that case hope you landed a few Aaron and Bench cards!!!

Had some fun on Vintage last weekend.....

Did the fun include Bombay Sapphire? I can appreciate a nice gin and tonic but usually I'm a Hendrik's guy.
Unfortunately I dont have the nice 50s and 60s pack fresh cards to add to the fun.

Wowzza that looks tasty!!

Chris…
Pull mint cards of Aaron #500, Aaron AS and Bench AS! Good luck…
Thanks!! Will share the good and the bad. Hopefully more good than bad.
NICE!!!!
Cool box!
Nice F. Robinson AS …
Some of the toughest cards to get good centering on...1970 Sporting News 450-469. Great start.
We just got through the entire box. It was limited to only half the 5th series. No Aaron's etc.

We are thinking about ripping something else....
11 Joe Morgan cards….geez! Possibly some 9s in there…
I always really liked the 70 set for it's minimalist simplicity, but the photos seemed sort of washed out. I don't know if it was the photo or the choice of the light gray border.
Still think it's one of the best sets of the 70s.

Holy Joe Morgan!

McLain was the last big league pitcher to win 30 games in a season (1968).
And the way starters are used today there will never be another 30 game winner.

If you decide to sell any of the "scraps" from the Denny McClain All-Star nirvana, send me a PM.
I'm a big All-Star collector and it looks like any of those would be an upgrade for my ungraded set. Perhaps a trade could be made? E
Thank you for posting these epic breaks - truly a treat to witness!
Erik

buying O-Pee-Chee (OPC) baseball

Some of those RFs look really nicely centered. That way on the backs too?
Geez, more Fingers than with a bunch of naughty kids and a cookie jar.

Looks like the vending box contained only the 44 different cards from the right side of the 264 card uncut sheet

Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972
Bad box…unfortunately to have a chance at just 44 cards.
Frank Robby!
So completely undervalued as a player. One of the greatest of all time.
What # to what # are yours cards of this series?
Honestly, I haven't looked. I'm kinda of a gunslinger with a twist of glutton for punishment. I just RIP.
