Anyone do business with any of these shops recently?

Cranium_Basher73Cranium_Basher73 Posts: 3,397 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looking to make my next purchase, common dates mainly, nothing too fancy. Hopefully well before the release of the 2025 high relief gold.
Each has, or had, a date on my wishlist Most have listings on Collectors Corner and are on their top 100 dealer listings.

Northeast Numismatics (Northeast Coin)

Atlas Numismatics - not on the listing, but mentioned in various posts that ate several years old.

Coast to Coast Coins

National Coin Wholesalers

AU Capital Management- they have 2 websites. One .com and one .net website. Which one should I use?

Liberty Coins, Inc. -out of Richmond Virginia. Their website has been down for 2 weeks now. Getting a "404 not found" error. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

So, how were your experiences, if any, with these businesses?

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

I’ve had excellent transactions with the first three dealers on your list. No experience with the others.

ive done a lot of business with Northeast. they're great to deal with.

ive also bought some from coast to coast, always been an easy transaction with them.

I too am a fan of NEN.....never dealt with the others.

All of them are good, as long as you're on the right website and not dealing with an impersonator. Use .com for AUCM.

Not sure what your wishlist is comprised of, but many dealers, likely dealers you've done business with in the past, can get common date gold anything but they may not have a listing on their website for it. IDK if you're talking about modern stuff or classics, but could certainly make a recommendation with more specifics.

I have bought lots of coins from both Northeast Numismatics and Coast-to-Coast Coins, and I have nothing but good things to report about both.

I do not know any of the others.

NEN is top notch! Highly recommend them!

  • North east Numismatics was great. I bought a Merc from them about a year back.

Northeast Numis and Coast Coins- off and on over the years and transactions with both this year. Nothing but praise for both.

Northeast and Coast, both within the last 24 months. Both are worthwhile.

I also bought from Liberty once. No issues. That's been a while. Hope they are still around based on the 404 comment.

    No experience from the rest.

Given what you are looking for I would doubt Atlas Numismatics would have a deep selection for you, as long as you are looking at US coinage. Regardless, Atlas specializes in foreign coins and I'd guess there won't be as much feedback for them as the others, so I will stick with writing about them. I have done business with Atlas since about the time they opened their shop and have never had an issue with them. They carry terrific coins.

My wishlist is currently $20 Liberties for the most part in grades XF45. Most common date CC's in 45. Bookends for type-2 Libs, 1866 and 1876 (1876-S in 61 or 62). A San Francisco Civil War date, and a 1907-D in 64 to close out my last year of type-3 Libs. Missed out on the D and a several CC's that others have bought over the past couple weeks.

Plenty of good experiences with Northeast over the years. My last purchase from them was a big one and I appreciate their taking the time to pull the coin and answer some questions about it over the phone. No sales pitch, just accurate answers. Love the coin.

They do have a 1876-S type-2 $20 in ms61 and 62. That date is on my wishlist.

Gotcha, wanted to make sure you weren’t talking about bullion grade stuff that’s not worth listing with current premiums.

I believe I've done business with all except Atlas with no issues, though If I dabbled more in world coins I’m sure I would have done business with them all.

I think that nice circulated (and some uncirculated ) $20 libs, especially branch mint issues, are a fantastic value right now. A lot of these coins have been 4-5k for a decade, and haven’t kept up with spot price appreciation. Hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for, I always thought the 07-D in pq 64 was a great value coin also.

(Voice in head): Not again! Be kind.

One of these sellers balked at my wanting to return a nicely toned Barber half I had purchased that unfortunately had someone's initials carved into the eagle's chest. I didn't see the initials until I had the coin in-hand. I received my money back, but not after a few unprofessional rounds of "It's not that bad" "So, now you want a return now?!" like some scummy seller on eBay. It turned me off to this company 18 years ago and I have never checked their site since then.

Everybody loves them here, though. A company with great integrity, they say. Maybe the salesman was just kidding me. Weird. It's amazing how a company can turn someone off with a few casual unprofessional remarks over the phone.

I bought many $20 libs from AUCM, loved their coins and their services. Not sure what has happened to AUCM because (recently) their Latest Inventory doesn’t seem to be updated.

Both Northeast Numismatics and Coast to Coast Coins are professionals above reproach and a pleasure to do business with. I have purchased several coins from each, primarily of late being mint state coins from the middle 1930s. I recently purchased a 1930s Mercury Dime (a more expensive one) from one of them stated as MS-67+ FB and went to the NGC site to verify it. The site had a picture of the very same coin in an MS68 FB holder yet listed as MS-67+ FB. They contacted me back when I asked about that and immediately offered a full refund. I checked a bit more and talked with them and bought the coin. It arrived in the MS-67+ FB NGC holder and all is good. I have purchased Buffalo Nickels, Walking Liberty Half Dollars and Mercury Dimes from each of them. I suspect more denominations as well. Both are a credit to the dealer side of this hobby.

That's not the same outfit. You forgot the "s" in coins. The one you're referring to has an evil bay store, the other does not.

I've often bought from NE and Coast. One nice thing at NE is that they will consider offers below their asking price on all but new inventory items, and out of at least a dozen over the past year they have accepted all of my offers (usually 5-7% lower). Coast is good too but they pretty much list at PCGS price list, which is fine for difficult items but often you can do better.

edit: Actually, just received an MS66 PCGS 1934 Light Motto Washington 25¢ from NE today.

Virginia. Just spoke to a nice lady there and she said their webmaster is down and they are in the process of getting it to work with a different webmaster. But she welcomes phone calls 804-741-8143.

I believe that Russell at AUCM is migrating web servers. AUCM.com is the old site, AUCM.net is the new site under test. Russell plans to migrate AUCM.net to the AUCM.com URL in the coming week. Once done he will have a single URL, and AUCM.net goes away.
