    Filming of the 1967 James Bond Film “You Only Live Twice” set in Japan incorporated Himeji Castle as the set for the film’s Ninja Training School.

    Filming at the castle site came to an abrupt halt when someone erroneously reported to a newspaper that the Ninja actors were throwing Ninja Stars at a walkway wall resulting in damage to the historic castle.

    Although it appeared to the reporting observer that the wall was being damaged from the hurled stars, in fact a dummy wall had been erected in front of it. However once the story broke perception became reality and the film crew were not allowed to continue filming at Himeji Castle.

    In this brief video clip the subject walkway wall has been located and visiting Ninjas are seen hurling imaginary Ninja Stars at it.

    FROM LAST WEEK'S TRAVELS -

    A TALE OF TWO SHINTO SHRINES IN KYOTO JAPAN

    The first originated circa 600 AD, and the second circa 700 AD.

    The purpose of the first was to protect Kyoto from evil forces.

    The purpose of the second was to foster prosperity including bountiful harvests.

    To reach the first, one travels a forest path that is noted for its variety of trees.

    The second fronts a mountain path that is noted for its thousands of Torii Gates.

    The first includes a sub shrine that is embraced today by those seeking beauty.

    The second is embraced today by those seeking financial success.

    THE TWO SHRINES ARE RESPECTIVELY SHIMOGAMO-JINJA SHRINE AND FUSHIMI INARI SHRINE

    Graced by messenger [from the gods] foxes at the entrance, Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto Japan is best known for fronting the pathway up Inari Mountain with its thousands of Torii Gates. Inari is the largest sect of Shinto and there are 30,000 Inari Shrines throughout Japan with this being the head Inari Shrine.

    The shrine offers blessings of success and financial prosperity.

    It is night, it is raining and yet you have chosen to join in climbing through a tunnel of Torii Gates that line the pathway behind Kyoto’s most important Shinto Shrjne, Fushimi Inari.

    Established in the 8th Century the shrine is known for bringing financial success. In this video you will share in the experience of climbing through upwards of a thousand Torii Gates forming a tunnel known as Senbon Torii. (Senbon in Japanese is a thousand.)
