WOW! The entire die was split and the coin was struck in oval shape. Check out the W in WE, and the misaligned rim by Lincoln's shoulder. I don't recall ever seeing a die split of this magnitude before.

This split die is listed as “SD-1C-1972D-01” over at cuds-on-coins.com
There was an article in Coin World 1973 that showed the progression of this split die. Quite fascinating as it featured about 1/2 dozen cents in various stages. I believe the last coin showed the 50% cud.
