Do American Innovation Dollars count?

If my type set is only circulation issues (no proofs or "W" Dimes), do the American Innovation Dollars count as issued for circulation?

Yes, the ones minted in Philadelphia and Denver are "issued for circulation".
The ones minted in San Francisco are proofs.
PCGS CoinFacts is out of date, showing only the 2018-2019 dollars.
    Fortunately there is wikipedia:

In actual practice, relatively few of them will actually circulate among the the public, similar to the Sacagawea dollar.
Although they do work in the USPS vending machines, and for paying for public transit in many places.
Some people have called them a "transit token".

I ignore them for the most part. I bought one when I was trying to keep my complete type set at 100%, but I have since given up that. I can’t buy modern coins in slabs anymore within paying high prices for “rare” varieties. Nobody has them at the shows.

My attitude has become, if it never circulates, I usually don’t need it.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I've never seen one in circulation. Ignore them.

If you're looking thru boxes or rolls, there are many out there. But you're right, I've never seen one or received one in change.

If we could get rid of the paper dollar I think they would definitely circulate, and we have a “test market” to the North to prove it! Plus the quarter is so worthless folks are not returning their Aldi carts anymore - they can switch to dollar coins once they circulate more.

I like the series and wish it had been put into circulation properly. The state-specific designs can inspire new collectors just like the state quarters did a generation ago.

i received an AI dollar in a roll of $1 NA coins ordered directly off the mint's website. I was quite disappointed to find the date on the coin matched the issue year.

so? it's going into circulation

I wish that they counted more, but these just don't circulate significantly, at least where I am. It is too many types to try and collect for something that I nearly ever see as change. So if I actually do come across one (maybe in Ecuador!), I'll add it to my type set, but otherwise I don't try and collect these.

In my type set as a coin meant for circulation, but only one example. Same with the many quarter programs. Everything US is slabbed and no hope of recovering the cost in any reasonable time frame, so I do the minimum. Kind of wish I had stopped with 20th century type.

There is only one, in all the years since the innovation dollars first began (2018 ?) with missing edge lettering which I have found in the population reports at PCGS. That’s unusual. I would have thought there would be at least two.
