Hello, I just wanted your opinion on this penny. The reason why I’m asking because it was sleeved up in a box of other heavy hitters. But this one in particular am I missing something or is it just a regular 1959 D nothing special ?
Except for the corrosion, It just looks like a regular cent to me.
Can’t see any errors or varieties.
Maybe it was kept because it was the first year of the memorial cents.
This is the kind of item one should find searching rolls of cents. It’s not a keeper because of the corrosion spot on the reverse. Although the coin is over 60 years old, these coins were saved in large quantities.
When I was kid collector in 1960, a 60 year old coin (1900 Indian Cent) would have been a big deal. Now it isn’t because so many were saved.
BTW, I will be giving an educational forum at the Summer FUN convention next month in Orlando about a one a year collection of U.S. cents, 1793 to date.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Just a spender, I don't see anything special there. Welcome to the forums as well 🙂
