Post Your Classic Proofs

For me, that's anything pre-1916. Not sure how others would define it (maybe cutting out the really early ones and adding the 36-42s), but if you want to post something slightly outside that range go ahead.

Here's a whole bunch I've seen:

No images to post but some commentary. I appreciate proof issues from the period you're interested in, the only negative for me is that all the Barbers look alike, all the Seated issues look alike and I wouldn't buy a proof Morgan when I can get essentially the same look with a DMPL. Gold issues and the early proofs are just too expensive though they often look spectacular. For me that leaves IHC's, 2 cents, 3 cents and the Nickel issues. Of those, the 3CN's have the most visual appeal and are the only issues I've owned from that time period.

I have owned some medals from the 1800's which have been designated as proof that check off the right boxes for me: low mintage typically less than 300 and superior designs unmatched by standard coinage.

Thank you semikeycollector. 1821 is ex Pittman. Was NGC 66 no CAC.
    1840 is ex Dan Holmes.

Seems inflation has caught up with the 1885 Trade Dollar! And all the rest for that matter!

    Great thread!
My favorite classic proof (photographed with a page from the first edition Red Book):

I love this coin. The most perfect lowball proof trade I have ever seen. The only lowball circ proof I have ever seen. I saw a vg once about a dozen years ago.
