Gimme Shelter is a masterpiece, but it's a tragic song. What makes the song really spectacular is the voice of Merry Clayton singing the back up vocals, as well as the solo. She has a beautiful voice and she really pours everything she has into it, you'll notice her voice actually cracks during the solo from putting so much into it. She was Four months pregnant at the time and the strain from her performance on the track caused her to have a miscarriage.

Most musicians when they try to change a classic song, usually wind-up failing, sometimes miserably.

Not this time, Edge actually enhanced it. Superbly done.

Fergie overwhelmed everybody. Jagger even had a tough time keeping up with her. LOL

There were a lot of anti-war songs done during the mid/late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Most of them aren’t readily known by most people who weren’t actively listening to the music at that time. A lot of the lyrics weren’t straightforward and obvious.

One of the greatest bands of all-time, The Smashing Pumpkins, God, Billy Corgan is such a musical genius. This is a hauntingly beautiful song, Billy Corgan's way of getting back at his parents for the abuse he suffered at their hands as a child. Disarm you with a smile, that line just gets me every time. Such a deep and poetic song.

In 2014, I guess Mötley Crüe was going out on tour for the "final" time. The Crüe partnered up with FOX and MLB to create this Royals/Home Sweet Home hype video that was played prior to Game 1 of the 2014 World Series, both in the commercial break for those watching at home, and on the Crown Vision for those of us there in attendance. I thought that I recalled a higher definition version of this at one time on YouTube, but this one will have to suffice. Hard to believe that this was over 10 years ago.

I think this will be difficult over the next few years - watching these guys hang it up with 'farewell tours' and then eventually not being with us any more. A world without Plant, Page, Clapton, Steven Tyler, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Springsteen, Jagger, Mellencamp, and MANY, MANY more will be....sad. And throw the ladies in there too - Jett, Benatar, Wilson sisters, etc.

For me personally, John Williams will probably require me to take a day off.
