Neat old US Mint Canvas Bag
I just found this old US Mint Bag that I picked up many years ago while going through some storage boxes.
It would have contained Standing Liberty Quarters - And from the year that the Great Depression started.
Pretty neat item from history!

Back in the early 1970's I had an original canvas bag that held $1000 of 1925 Stone Mountain Half Dollars. It walked into the local coin shop and they bought it for $5. I bought it from them for $10 and sold it at the 1974 Georgia Numismatic Association show for $25. I have never seen or heard of another.
Cool 1929 bag!
HA has sold a couple of undated New Orleans Mint silver dollar $1000 bags
for something like $1600 in 2019, and last year, about $2700.
My guess is your 1929dated SL quarter bag is much rarer
The Stone Mt. bag I’ve never even heard of….wow
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
Don't you wish you had it full of the quarters it once had? That would be so fun to cherry pick.
Wow, that is really pretty cool!
Can you imagine having a bag containing 4,000 Mint State 1929 Standing Liberty Quarters today?
That bag would be worth well North of a Million dollars.
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

I have seen a lot of silver dollar bags but have never seen one of these.
Wasn't there a half bag of 1893-S dollars that Wayte Raymond found? Or am I tweaking?
That's a first like that here as well. Nice score
That’s a great bag – I’ve never seen a standing liberty quarter bag before – I sold my collection thru Heritage in 2022 and was very happy with the prices.
Your bag is worth a small fortune, imo.
Very cool bag !
I've had a couple of 500 dollar gold coin bags in the past. They were about the size of a 3x5 file card. Since I came across two of them at different times, I thought they must be fairly common, but I don't know......
This bag has to incredibly rare. Well done!

Love it, I live near Boston so grabbed this sack to keep my junk silver in, 36 pounds of the stuff and fits nicely, about the size of a really fat baby 😄
Thank you for all of your positive comments!
I did not realize there was that much value to the bag, and it will soon be sent for auction.
Maybe Great Collections?
Thanks again!

GC is a great venue for coins, but I think you would do better using an auction firm that will do a full write-up on your possibly unique bag.
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
I own this one.

Could be the same one. Where did you get it?
Very cool bags.
is the filling it goal achievable today?
The feds called and asked when you plan on returning that bag as directed?
Cool thread!
Often stuff like this is just as interesting as the coins!

I always thought original bags were cute but I never realized they were that cute!
I wanted a bag like that for my junk silver (above) with a 'proper' date for the coins inside, but those prices
... my Bank of Boston bag and others like it are $20 all day on eBay and looks better than a random tote bag, still has that "robbed an armored car" look to it
Thank you for the information - It seems that Heritage is the best way to go!
I believe it was 15-20 1893-S dollars in an original bag of 1892-S dollars. As I remember, the mint would wait to fill a whole bag to meet both individual coin and bag weight tolerances. This required the right mix of "lights" and "heavies", so if a bag couldn't be filled by the end of the year it would be held until the next batch of the next year's coinage.
Fascinating stuff, and it's possibly the reason the Langbord 1933 $20s left the mint.

Cool story. Thanks for sharing.
That was the Langbord family. I don't remember the patriarch's first name, but he is a member here, and kept us all up-to-date during the trial. I know I speak for others here when I say my heart was broken with that trials outcome.
Those 1933s are always only a couple political moves away from being legal to own. Get a very convincing Senator or House Rep that cares a lot about the issue, and you never know what could happen.
