@Coinbert: that’s a good question! I mainly collect FE’s & IHC’s. There are no color designations at all for FE’s nor CN IHC’s (1859-1864). That includes UNC.
Assumption is circulated IHC’s are BN, but there are exceptions for occasional RB’s. They’re usually found in AU58, but I’ve seen them as “low” as VF20! No RD’s to my knowledge.
I believe the Lincolns also designate circulated RB’s if appropriate.
I don’t know about the half cents & LC’s, though. Maybe someone can weigh in about those.

My experience with LC's is that PCGS, NGC, and ANACS give BN; RB; and RD designations for MS coins, but only NGC gives BN designations for AU coins and below... I've seen a couple of NGC graded LC's at XF45BN... I'm not sure how low they go with that particular designation for color...

I imagine its way better lol, my guess was for obverse that seems to be well chattered, reverse seem 67, these are always wild, last one or prior one went for VF grades thru MS64 grades so just have fun, and don't take it personal :#

Seriously... the 1855 LC above was an ebay purchase. Few bidders... maybe because of the old ANACS slab... but I got her for around VF money and I'm seeing a strong XF, possibly AU.

Yes it is, and 67FB is correct (although when I hit the quote tab it automatically changes to 66 maybe AI at work here) I happily sold it to an astute forum member for half of PG. Pop 4/0 2,200.00

There were some disagreements about the grade and I should consider it a gift :)
My thought was the depth of strike overruled the minor hits. Either way she gone now!

Go ahead @Clackamas as I was responding to your initial 67FB :)

I have 12 more dimes in process ranging from 81 to 97 hoping for more gifts. :)

  • Clackamas1Clackamas1 Posts: 1,543 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sorry, I changed my grade. Technically I did not guess since I changed it.

BTW - I tried for years on those 80's FB dimes. I made a few, mostly from mint sets.

Yup... missed the variety. I was more hung up on "FS" or no "FS"...

Thanks. In hand, the luster and toning really make it pop. And it’s in an old fatty.

Does the carpet match the drapes? 😅

Idk the reverse looks anything like that, it's a full gem to me.

Thanks and yes the luster and toning are consistent on both sides. The obvious dings on the reverse, IMO, keeps this from gem status. But what also drew me to this coin was the Snow-16 variety, which has an extremely strong internal cud or die break in the eagle’s wing. Zack.

Ahh I see, I wasn't active in this thread and didn't scroll up when I saw the second pic. Regardless, what a stunner.

I guess I have to go AU50 then, Im not sure how they treat the glossy surfaces but I would have been in the 40ish range if not taken already.

So is the AU50. I’m thinking, though, he’s looking for either “small date” or “large date” to be included with the grade #. I’m thinking the grade # has been guessed already, but he won’t consider it correct without the type - they are placed beneath the grade on the label. Just a thought….

No one has guess the "correct" grade yet... not looking for designation.
