I haven't been able to catch that score until just now and that boxscore is looking pretty rough right now for Cleveland.

Jeez, now Mitchell out with an injured ankle.

    lazy, choking team

Didn’t the Celtics win an NBA championship last year with this exact same roster?

I get being disappointed in their shot selection one game and ability to finish at the rim in the next but come on.

Looks like Giannis might have a new team in the very near future. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45109801/sources-giannis-antetokounmpo-explore-best-fits-milwaukee

Also, the NBA draft lottery is tonight and we're finally going to see where Cooper Flagg ends up with the 1st overall pick.

btw i watched the first half of Boston-NY G3 on Sat and liked what i saw out of the C's. sure, they were launching as usual, but they were also attacking the basket off the dribble. it was the perfect inside-out combo. the penetration created many good looks from deep. it was never stagnant and motionless. they played with a sense of urgency from the jump and it showed

Above all, I think their main issue has been ramping up the intensity late in the game, not as much to start it. They were able to build up a large lead in all three games, the main difference between G3 and the first two were they were able to get stops everytime the Knicks looked like they were going to starting eating away at that lead in the second half.
I do agree with your overall point though, they've definitely found that healthy balance where their shot selection has improved, hopefully they keep it going tonight.

Don't know if you caught the OKC game but it was interesting to see how it played out from an SGA standpoint. Overall, he had a very efficient game and scored 9pts in the 4th but in the final two minutes where OKC had a 9pt lead, he missed two wide open threes, another miss on a turnaround jumper just inside the arc and he had a ball go off his foot for a turnover. Denver made a valiant last ditch effort to make it a one possession game (90-87) after Gordon hit a three with 2 seconds left in the game but that run came a little too late.

Credit OKC's defense for getting the necessary stops when they needed them and also credit to SGA's play earlier in the 4th that got them that lead but one or two possessions go the other way and their narrative today is entirely different.

Some shameless self promotion here but I called Castle winning ROY way back before the season started. If they come away winning the lottery tonight we may end up seeing three straight ROY awards go to Spurs players which I'm pretty sure has never happened in NBA history. Either way, its going to be a shame that Pop's time as head coach is officially over.

and yes, the C's defense was very good. Porzingis looked a step slow but he stonewalled a few Knicks at the rim from the portion of the game i saw and they were off to the races the other way

i didn't see the OKC game but i did see them down late. i was like, yowza, the top two teams (record-wise) could potentially be down 1-3

Thankfully Porzingis is still giving them some rim protection right now because his offense has gone completely M.I.A. while he's been dealing with his viral illness. He's gone from 20ppg during the season, to 9ppg in the playoffs and just 4 a game against NY. This is the same guy that dropped 34 (with 8 threes) on NY a week before the playoffs started and hasn't really given them much as the C's best inside paint scorer since.

I think that those two teams are finding out that its much harder to win in the playoffs than it is during the season where you play someone and don't see them again for weeks/months. Now you need to beat someone 4 times all while each team is making adjustments on the fly between games.

i'm predicting a spirited effort by the Knicks and a hotly contested G4, with the Celtics eking out a narrow W

Its hard to think otherwise there. Here's a crazy trade idea...trade the chance to draft Flagg to the Bucks for Giannis and go all in with a top 4 of Kyrie, AD, Klay & the Greek Freak over the next three seasons.

The Spurs have to be pretty happy coming away with the 2nd & 14th picks.

EDIT: an even crazier trade idea, SA sends both picks to the Bucks for Giannis.

    Well that sucks.

Hats off to the Knicks, they were awesome on both ends in that 4th quarter. I haven't checked their shot chart yet but they had to have had a crazy shooting percentage in that last quarter, it seemed like they hit everything there and that was with some great defense by the C's.
EDIT: NY shot 15-22 (68%) in that final quarter. Bridges & Anunoby were 9-10.

Am I the only one that caught Nat Turner sitting front row on the baseline?

i got two parts of it right, but unfortunately for me i missed the most important one (I tied Boston into a parlay)

every game of the series the Celtics have had at least a 14-point lead and they're on the brink of elimination

So any word on the Tatum injury? Non contact injuries are usually the worst..............

    Uh - Oh

    Jesse Morse, M.D.
    @DrJesseMorse
My concern is a torn right Achilles tendon for Jayson Tatum.

Pushed off, leg gave out, immediately grabbed, writhing in pain.

Couldn’t bear any weight on it and needed to be wheelchaired off.

Other injuries (ankle sprain, fracture) are possible but unlikely.

An ankle fracture would be great news unfortunately, that would heal quicker than an Achilles

    Hope the kid is ok

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭✭✭

Whatever the prognosis is, it didn’t look good. The only info from the team that I could find is he’ll get an MRI down today.

sure did look like an achilles injury.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Both Cleveland and Boston are facing unlikely elimination which strengthens something I have thought for a long time, and for all sports. The team to win a championship is often the one that stays healthiest to the end. Both teams are now struggling with injuries at the conclusion of what is a long, long grueling season. I think they both focused more on the regular season and where they'd end up in the seeded playoffs. Had the rested players more often, prepared the backups better and groomed themselves for a series instead of just game-after-game they both probably would have fared better.

The same has happened to OKC but they at least have a fighting chance.

I've seen this before when Cleveland was playing Golden State in the finals for what seemed 3-4 years. The Cavs always seemed to have a key player or two unable to play and the entire load was placed on Lebron. One season in particular stands out, Kevin Love broke an arm in a semi against the Celtics and Irving had ankle problems. It's just the reality of the season, healthy teams win Championships.

GSW, without Curry, cannot keep up with Minnesota.

    Vacation awaits.

Interesting that Dallas got the first pick in the draft (1.8 per cent chance). I wonder if Dallas will keep it (drafting Flagg) or Dallas will use it in a trade for Giannis.

As for the Finals, how about an ABA party with Indiana v. Denver. Play that Finals with red, white and blue basketballs.

I really don't think you have to "root" for Indiana to win this series - 3-1 is such a low % rate to come back from to win - especially with a team like Indiana!

    Major bummer about Tatum.

He will most likely be out for the entire 2025-2026 season (similar to Durant missing the 2019-2020 season after tearing his achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals against Toronto).

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wow! They must have known what it was yesterday to have surgery all set to go today! The MRI was probably just to show the severity and exact location of it.

    Sucks about Tatum

This is why we were fortunate for them to grab that championship last year, it's possible we won't see another one for awhile

If your starting five players during the regular season play most of the 82 games and also play substantial minutes in each of those games (say above 36 minutes, or 3/4 of each game); and if the team during the regular season plays to win as many games as possible in order to get the #1 or #2 seeding in the playoffs, each player and team increases the chances that during the playoffs (when intensity and minutes played go up significantly) injuries will happen.

    For example Jason Tatum.

The road to an NBA title is very long and taxing. Luck and health play a big part in determining who wins the title.

So today it looks like Minnesota, Indiana and New York will advance to the conference finals. I suspect that Denver will end up winning against OKC so that it will also advance.

If that happens, what teams will win the conference finals and move on to the NBA Finals?

Nostalgia compels me to hope for a Nuggets v. Pacers Finals (since I grew up in Denver and enjoyed seeing the ABA play from the mid 1960's to the mid 1970's).

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

Indiana was down by 19 and has come back to only be down by 4 at the half. Cleveland 1 of 11 from 3.
