    You’ll notice the little black spot in the upper right reverse picture that tells you it’s in a GSA plastic holder.

    I would grade it as 64, but would not be surprised if it graded at 65 as GSA's seem too often get some leniency in the grading room.

    From what I see, CACG does not grade these with the bumps PCGS usually does.

    It looks like a 64 to me. Maybe a 64+ but I don't see it.

    1. Normal chatter on the cheek and in the fields. The reverse has a bit more chatter in the fields than I would have expected based on the obverse.

    Yes, I never agreed with that position on grading. A MS64 should be a MS64 regardless of Mint or Date.

    On that note alot on 1881-S 1882-S, 1883-S & 1884-S coins would be graded 2 points higher if they were any other date.

    A nice 63. Grading of course isn’t always consistent, but the marks on the 64s in this thread, while they might seem more numerous, are generally not as deep. They’re more surface grazes than hits. The hits on the OP coin are rough enough that I wouldn’t go 64.

    I'm curious when I look at this coin as an example I wonder how much the rub marks affect the grade. They don't look to be scrapes or dings of any kind but just abrasions.

    @dcarr when rounding anything after the decimal point that is 5 or higher gets rounded up :P

    I just bought it last Sunday already graded. I do not even have it in hand yet. I was looking for a CC in a GSA holder and I found this coin and found it to be far superior to other coins in the same grade. I feel it should grade 1 to 1 1/2 points higher but it will stay in the holder with the CACG grading band.

    Maybe NGC can just put it's strap over the CACG one. :D
    PCGS can slab it inside the bigger slab and it would be double graded. :D
