Has anyone successfully crossed a failed CAC sticker coin to CAC grading at grade?

ProofmorganProofmorgan Posts: 944 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just looking for objective information. I’m curious if anyone has had success? Cracking out of the holder does not necessarily count but that information would still be of interest.

    I doubt it.

Does CACG check the CAC data base to see if a coin was previously submitted for a sticker?

They don’t. There was a thread about this recently.

I haven’t crossed anything to CACG, but I’ve had coins sticker on subsequent attempts after previously failing. Several of those were in the same holder (same cert#).

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

It's possible but I have not seen this yet. Sometimes I wonder if a grading company can be so strict that few people send coins in..

I checked with CACG and they responded unambiguously that they do not, so clearly some must have crossed.

If so the submitter may be smiling but keeping it under the radar lol.

At least for the rest of May, a crossover seems like a good option since a fail is either free or $10 depending on the coin if you think the chance of a fail is relatively high. And if it does cross, while a bit more costly than a sticker, it is a nice new holder. ;)

John Albanese can't be in two places at once. Without him doing both the grading and the stickering, it's impossible to achieve consistent grading between the two operations - that is, as consistent as one man tasked with assessing 1000's of coins can be.

Don't get me started on this. Years ago at a major show, I heard some guy bragging that he got an MS 64 Seated Dollar with Motto into a 5 holder the 11th time he sent it in.

11 times is a drop in the water! I've heard of 40-50 submissions for a single coin. For those who collect labels, they would be shocked to see how many times their PCGS CAC coins were submitted and upgraded over and over again.

Not surprised. This sort of thing has been a major problem for numismatics for a long time.

It really chaps my behind that CAC no longer accepts members for stickering and that you have to go through a third-party. I wouldn’t trust my local guy as far as I could throw him. I have quite a few coins that I want to send in, but can’t for that reason. 😡

Not exactly, but I've had coins that didn't CAC get a green sticker on another try in the same holder.

I’ve seen of a couple where it was the same cert that failed stickering, but with a new cert # the possibilities are endless…as others have said, JA can’t be two places at once and no two graders grade the exact same,

I don’t think this is accurate. Can’t one become a member of CACG and as such one can submit either for grading or sticker review?

They only offer CACG privileges and not sticker privileges. They’re only allowing people to submit for stickering who already have sticker privileges, but not accepting new applications. At least that is my understanding, as per the information gleaned from their website.

Thanks for the correction. As you noted, I see that now after looking at the website under Club Membership and the FAQ section. I understand your frustration.
