1910 lincoln cent DDR

jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 10,427 ✭✭✭✭✭

Has anyone found the elusive 1910 Lincoln Cent DDR? Do any of the tpg's offer a slab for the DDR? I read a post here some time ago in its regard, but can't recall it. Variety Vista lists it as a VDDR-001 and calls it a transitional reverse. I finally found a half dozen rolls of the 1910 lincolns, but before I bother looking through them, i just wondered if it is worth the effort. Thanks.

I would open one roll just to see if any are worth grading.

PCGS CoinFacts doesn't show any varieties for 1910. Don't know about the other services.

Never looked for one, I don't know about PCGS but NGC will attribute this variety calling it the rev of 09. But even though NGC does attribute it there is no slot for this in the NGC Lincoln variety set. For such a minor variety if there is no registry demand I doubt it would be worth the cost to submit.

At this point it might be considered a minor variety, but from what I have read(on google so beware) there have only been a dozen or so found and in this read says extremely rare. So who knows at this point, may just be too early. Who would be the Lincoln guru on the forum that may have better grasp on the coin.

A 1910 Lincoln cent with a transitional reverse die (DDR) from 1909 is a rare coin variety. It's characterized by the doubled die on the reverse, specifically a Class 3 or design hub doubled die, where doubling is most noticeable on the "T". The coin has a 1910 date and the obverse of a 1910 penny, but the reverse is from an earlier form of the 1909 reverse die.
    Here's a more detailed explanation:
    Transitional Variety:
This coin is considered a transitional variety because it features an older reverse die from 1909, inadvertently used in the 1910 production.
    Doubled Die (DDR):
The term "DDR" refers to a doubled die, meaning the die that struck the coin had some kind of flaw or was reused, resulting in a doubled or blurred impression on the coin.
    1910 Obverse, 1909 Reverse:
The coin has the obverse (front) design of a 1910 Lincoln cent, but the reverse (back) design is from the 1909 reverse, specifically a die that was used in the 1909 production of Lincoln cents.
    Doubling on the "T":
The most noticeable doubling is on the letter "T" in the word "CENT" on the reverse side of the coin.
Class 3 Design Hub Doubled Die:
This is a specific type of doubled die where the die is likely from an earlier form of the die used in 1909, and it was inadvertently used in the 1910 production, according to a video on YouTube.
    Significance:
This type of variety is considered rare and valuable, especially in higher grades.

It would be wise to get Shawn Tews book which gives the back research on this year as well as the 1909's.

And to answer your question is the 1910 coin desirable...This raw one sold a few months back and was unattributed. The seller must still be wondering why it went for over $1400 on eBay. And No, I I did not win it.
