Odd email received about an auction won

Perhaps the slab was damaged after photos were taken? Not an ideal situation and I think they should have given you the choice of whether to reholder but I appreciate the honesty.

I won a coin a few years ago from a well known (but not HA, SB or GC) auctioneer and the slab arrived badly damaged. I was pretty upset at the nondisclosure.

would have been nice if they gave you an option ... but still commenable that they took a proactive step. Years ago I had a lot from Heritage back in the days when they put their lot information tag with tape that overlap the rear of the slab. When I pealed off the tape the NGC silver label backing was stripped. Heritage offer to take to have it reslabed by NGC at no cost too me. Nice that they offered but I passed, as I never like sending pieces in the mail if I do not need too.

I don’t know whether you were trying to be funny or misunderstood the opening post. But in case it was the latter, the OP indicated that the seller was having the coin reholdered, not that it was being sold to someone else (who’d made a better offer).

Not sure what's so odd, sounds like the slab is jacked, and they want to make it right. That said they should have consulted with you first before deciding to send it in. Depending on which service you may see it in days or many months. RGDS!

The oversized slabs for these large, thick medals often times severely hinders one’s ability to view the medal within. People that complain about the prongs in NGC holders have nothing on the issues that collectors of these large medals run into when slabbing.

Sometimes the slab is way too thick, making it difficult to get light onto the entire medal’s surfaces. Sometimes the gasket is way too small, totally covering up the design rims and even the design of a medal, in some cases. Both issues are extremely aggravating, in my opinion.

I’m not sure what’s going on with this one. Sometimes PCGS will place the medal between two transparent sheets of plastic within the holder, but I’m not sure that’s what’s going on here.

My guess is that trapped air between plastic layers wasn't forced or rolled out prior to slabbing. It should be harmless to the medal, but it certainly hinders viewing.

I saw that on a PCGS coin I was shooting at CSNS a couple days ago, and not one in a huge holder. Not sure exactly what it is, but I'm assuming it's some sort of oil on the inside surface of the shell. This is something PCGS needs to address.

Yes, I'm sure. When I saw it, I was hoping that was it. It got worse after peeling the film off.
