eBay removed the listing. I wonder what caused them to do that, considering all of the other counterfeits they've recently deemed not to be in violation of their listing policies.

I can't download the reverse of the counterfeit for some reason, but here is the True View and the obverse of the fake.
Counterfeit
You should be able to see the difference. The look of this fake is similar to others I have noted recently. The relief in the middle of the fake is not right. It's subtle, but there is a difference. The surface also has a wierd luster to it that is not right.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Ref his sold items ; same coin, only the reverse photo, but with the same contact mark on the eagle's breast.
The portrait caught my attention immediately. It is definitely wrong. I would've known that was a fake. The counterfeiters are getting better with the holders though and they would for sure fool a lot of people as to the validaty of the coin. Nowadays "doing your homework" before buying is an understatement!
A stronger response by EBay is necessary, ban for anyone listing counterfeit coins and much higher scrutiny for newer sellers somehow. Unfortunately EBay seems far more concerned with sales than with legitimacy of products.
Also, if the seller is in the US this should be reported to the FBI or other appropriate authorities by EBay for investigation of wire fraud and other applicable laws, otherwise EBay is facilitating the crimes.

Pretty easy to tell the fake trueview coin is not the same as what is in the holder.
As to why it was removed so fast somebody has a hotline to ebay maybe our host.
If someone has a hotline to eBay that makes a difference, that’s a very new development. As a large quantity of other listings of counterfeit coins in counterfeit PCGS holders have been reported, yet weren’t removed.

and the counterfeit would grade higher than a 63+. tho i'd expect one day they take care of that. it doesn't have definition from the bottom of the cap to the south
Disclaimer by the seller is a clue, I guess it made him feel less culpable. Peace Roy

I have been notified that this coin may be counterfeit. So buy at your own risk.
It looks good to me, but I am no coin expert."

I’ve read that boiler plate on eBay offering before. It’s not worth the paper it’s written upon, and there’s no paper involved.

This seller had 3 listed and I and others in my group reported them to the Bay. One was removed, one sold and one was ended by the seller...
I messaged the seller, too, but he didn’t reply.
I also reported one of the other1896-O’s that the seller had sold. But eBay found the listing wasn’t in violation of their listing policies even though it had the same picture and PCGS cert number as the one they removed.

Yes, so I've been told, I even added that to description but ebay took it out
I also found it on Ali and notified him of that as well:
That is an odd response.
I wish AI could be used for good: such as setting it up to hunt down and delete these counterfeit sellers. Once banned they would be offered a single chance at a recourse via writing an email to eBay explaining why they were banned wrongly. (I'd think none would take eBay up on that offer.)
Also eBay could use an AI vetting process in approving new sellers.

That'll fool some people
Oh my, that would fool me for sure. How can you tell it's a fake by looking at it?
Pull up the true view.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc

Not even looking at the coin, the font on the label looks really off.
Yeah, I was looking at that also. I was gonna compare it to a genuine label when I got home.

Just a random thought.

Writing an email to an AI enterprise agent?
Who would pay for this process? A 15% base sellers fee?
