Nice score at the antique store.

My wife and I hit some antique shops in the area today. Something we do once a month on weekends after breakfast. Many have the same run of the mill coins you typically find at antique shops. Dateless Buffalo nickels for $3 each, common date raw AU Morgan and Peace dollars for $60 - $80. Lots of generic silver bullion rounds in fancy capsules with huge mark-ups.
Today however, I was looking at some coins displayed in a glass showcase when I did a double take and then a triple take on this Morgan dollar. Even though Morgans don’t really scratch that collector itch in me, I just couldn’t pass it up on this price.
$34.99 plus tax….thank you very much! Probably will end up cracking it out for my Dansco album.

Very surprising. The best thing I ever bought at an antique store was a nice, bright white 1973-S Brown Ike for $10 when Grey Sheet bid was $15.

Some of these people don't know what they're doing; apparently they priced it based on silver.

With no disrespect to what appears to be a very nice example for the grade, thats a silly-high price for a common, frequently traded coin. In fact, that’s approximately what MS65’s sell for.

I would think twice before cracking the coin out of the holder. A decent raw Morgan for a Dansco or Whitman type set should be easy enough to find and buy.

Nice find. Was there any other underpriced collectibles there? And will you be a frequent visitor to this vendor? May be a benefit for you if you do.

These are shops we go to frequently. They have many vendors who consistently revolve their inventory so you can go once a month and see a lot of new items on each visit. Prices for most things are fair in my opinion. We seem to find something to take home every time we go.

I never really look at the coins and currency displays because they are mostly overpriced. Lots of details holders with straight grade pricing. Lots of bullion such as colorized silver American eagles, mint prestige sets, stuff like that. I just happen to look at the case yesterday while my wife was looking at something in the area of the coins.

This coin was standing behind some other common date Morgan and Peace dollars that were priced at or just below guide value.

The pic I uploaded doesn’t portray the coin accurately. Looking at in hand, I think they got it right.
I think I was focused on capturing the price tag over the coin 😜

I was looking at that myself.
Good buy and I'd definitely leave contact information for the seller to see what else they come up with in the future.
Guess it depends on what the rest of the items in the case looked like...if it was just a case with random items or just a case of coins.

Just noticed that you paid sales tax...you should lobby your congressman and get that changed...no sales tax on coins here in Arizona.

Heckuva grab! Congratulations!! That is at least a $100 coin. And very clean for the grade I might add.

I was wondering that too, but looking at the other coins he was selling, he wrote the dollar symbol ($) on all of the price tags.
So if he wanted 134.99, based on the others it would have said $134.99.
Also, I did confirm the price before asking him to unlock the case to see it.

That 'silly high price' was just about what some hopeful dealers were asking for raw Morgans at the show this weekend
Imagine how they would have priced a slabbed 64

Choice uncirculated common-date Morgan dollar is a $75-$80 coin.
