19th Century Sterling Silver Stamp Holder

I posed this item in the stamp area to see if anyone had any information on it. We were selling some items from my mother's estate. The appraiser said that this piece sterling silver piece was from the 1870s and that it was used to store postage stamps. It could attached to a watch chain.
Does anyone have any information about this item? Thanks for your responses.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible.
