Sweet!
I figured it was a type 1 that wasnt advertised as such, but its hard for me to tell in those photos. It is a type 1 right?

It is a Type 1, and it may even warrant a Cameo designation.
A bath is needed to remove light haze.
I just found the Ebay listing, and now Im wondering if your eyes are really that good, or if you just took a gamble on it? Or did you get better pics from the seller?

Reverse pic looks dcam, obv looks cam. Nice score if T1.
The listing photos showed a Type 1, plus a Cameo reverse. The obverse photo is not very good, but there are hints of frost that caused me to BIN.
Depending on how the half looks after a bath this may turn out to be a very good purchase.
Hmm, maybe I did not find the right ebay listing. The one I was looking at was sold sept 4, but I cant see any cameo contrast and I can barely see the eagle.

Gave the half a bath to remove the haze. It looks better and has no hairlines or other negatives. The obverse has some frost on the devices but it is not heavy enough to warrant a Cameo designation.
Nice bath. Getting the haze (dirt) off
shows the truth, still a #1 variety.

TTT. Well, today I learned, much to my surprise, that the 1956 Type 1 half dollar shown above has been graded by our host as a PF66CAM.
After over 25 years of looking for a raw Cameo proof 1956 Type 1 half, I finally had success. Never expected it to happen. It just goes to show that one never knows; and that when in doubt......................... you must submit

What was the bath you used - ezest then acetone?
A quick dip in diluted E-Zest; plus a long rinse under cold water.
It usually is very effective in removing light haze that develops on proof silver and proof nickel coinage.

Grading (including designations) is a matter of subjective opinion, which can and does differ from person to person.
Here is a True View photo of a 1961 proof half dollar that graded PF68 (no Cameo). It was in the same submission as the 1956 Type 1 PF66CAM.
Interesting which coin received the designation and which coin did not (I still have never made a 1961 Cameo half dollar).
When I receive the submission back from our host and look at these two coins in hand under good lighting I will give a further update.
