Selling coins on the forum

I’ve been lurking for a week or so now. Being a newbee I have few memorable thoughts to contribute. But I have been doing some upgrading of my collection and have few lower grade coins now for sale. I thought I would inquire about selling coins on this forum. Is this the correct forum category? Is it fair to ask for interested buyers to bid or should I just offer a fixed price and first come first sale? What about payment? I can accept paypal but not a credit card and am leery of checks. All the coins I have available are PCGS graded but my photography may not be the best. Is the example below acceptable quality/resolution? I don’t want to be accused by someone of disguising any appearance issues.

Obviously I have several questions. Are there published guidelines somewhere? I would appreciate your thoughts.

There is a buy/sell/trade section on the forum, all rules are listed in the pinned threads.

As a new member here, you may have trouble selling coins here unless you are willing to ship the coin for examination prior to being paid. We've had a few newer members here sell coins and not ship them after being paid. Most sellers here accept personal check from long time active members with a high post count.

Raptor…is not an inviting handle for a man selling something. It would be a great name for a hunting guide. I know that that is not the advice you sought—I’m a helpful guy.

I think one way to get there (ising the BST Forum as suggested), is offer at a reasonable fixed price, entertain reasonable offers, follow the rules of the BST (and here), and then ask about the people who are offering to buy. To do that you may want to pay attention and reach out to a member or two that post coins like you have, that's been around a while, and posts a bit.

There is a great Circle of Trust here, and some members are solid gold. If you end up asking about one of them, the longer term members will know them, and you will NOT have an issue getting paid if you ship first.

The problem of course is you are new, you probably don't have references we know (I could be wrong), and there's just enough crap in our hobby that most of us don't want to take any unusual chances.

    Good advice so far.

Re: Is it fair to ask for interested buyers to bid or should I just offer a fixed price and first come first sale?

I think most of us prefer that you state the price you’re looking for, with perhaps a little wiggle room. And realize many here are active in auctions, attend shows, etc. and have a pretty good feel for the real market. If you price too high, you’ll likely be ignored or dismissed unless it’s something really exceptional. Keep in mind that there are no charges for selling, unlike most other venues. And honesty and integrity are paramount. If a buyer or seller feels they got screwed, we hear about it pretty quickly 😆

    Best of luck to you!

  • I don't think I will try using the forum for buying or selling. I'll continue to periodically check in to see if there are posts I can learn from but the bottom line is I am not a social media type guy. Frankly I feel social media has done more to destroy societal norms than any benefits it has provided. This is not a negative comment about the this coin forum just a generalization about the times we live in.
