Just starting with collection

_My father left me a decent collection of coins and bills and i just started looking at them. Just a couple quick questions to start. Whay does it mean when a coin and or Year doesn't show up on the PCGS site? I can find the coin but not the year. Next question is about bills. I have some that i would like to get valued and don't know where to start. One of them is a misprint. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You would need to post pictures to get informed answers
Which is the correct Forum to post them?
This forum for coins, the currency forum for paper money.
Awesome. Thank you for the info!
This is one coin that doesn't show up on this site. It's under Liberty seated half dime but this one is not quite teh same. The back has a V on it. Sorry don't have a pic of teh back currently since i'm not home. Any help is appreciated!
Please post a picture of the reverse when you have a chance so that we can help!
Good luck! You'll definitely get some expert (not me) opinions here.
Hmmmmmm............
For a moment I thought you might have a pattern there, but checked and the only pattern half dime of 1854 is the J-166 and it has a somewhat normal looking reverse with the wreath and "Half Dime" in the center......No V.
The obv picture is a half dollar. It remains to be seen if we're getting trolled.
Not getting trolled. Sorry don't have a back pic yet but i will drop one later.
love token, maybe? Need pics
I need to apologize for the bad info. Manifest_Destiny was correct it was a half dollar. Newbie error for sure. Anyhow herr are the pics
Not sure why you said "The back has a V on it." or why you don't think it shows up on the PCGS site. It's pretty straight forward that it's an 1854 half dollar.
Because i had another 1902 coin that had that. Got them mixed up. My apologies
Back to the original Question. This coin (the 1854 Half Dollar) Doesn't show up on the price list. Curious what that means. Thanks again.
Scroll down to the type 4 section. Arrows at the date are considered a separate type.
Not a half dime. No V on reverse. Off to a solid start!
If you are looking for accurate pricing information, check out Ebay sold listings. Type in the coin and look for a grade match.

Here is an example of your coin and a little history.
The California gold rush resulted in a huge increase in the supply of gold in the United States. This caused to the relative increase in the price of silver to the point where all of the silver coins melted for more than their face value. Congress reacted by reducing the weight of the half dime, dime, quarter and half dollar. For an obscure reason Congress did not reduce the weight of the silver dollar.
This weight decrease with noted on the coins by placing arrows at the date. In 1853, there were also rays around the eagle. The arrows continued until 1855. You coin is in the middle of that era. The weight of the silver coins remained the same until 1873 when there was a slight increase in weight. Those standards remained in place until 1965 when increases in the price of silver forced the change to the clad coinage.
Here is an 1853 Arrows and Rays half dollar. I hope you will enjoyed the history lesson.
