I won't look it up and guess $71,250.
For reference this PCGS MS65RD sold last spring at Stack's Bowers for $45k. Greysheet for a CAC MS65RD is $48k.

You’re close….only a few hundred grand short though….😉
Over a hundred grand for that is nuts....I sold a nice MS62 cac rb a few years ago for around $2500, bought the raw coin for around two grand and it was a struggle to get what I got.
I don’t like the spot on the 5. 😉
There was an 1873 Doubled Liberty Indian cent in MS64BN that only went for about 10k in the same auction. Someone got a heck of a steal on that one!
If I owned that coin, every time I looked at that coin, I would see that spot.
Crazy. One spot would ruin your whole day.
I was following so no guess. Great coins aren't cheap.
It brought more this time around than in January 2023.

The doubling is nice but those spots! I’d rather have a nice spotless brown AU.
I did not know about the previous sale in January 2023 hence my surprise at the current sale price.
Yep, every time you look at it your eye gets drawn to the spot like a moth to a flame.
To me it is even more shocking that a 1958 PR69DCAM sold for $55,000
My first guess was it sold for more than I could afford. Turns out that guess was an understatement.
1958 PCGS PR69DCAM Cent brought a surprising price also, to say the least.
I can never unsee that spot.
I guess these are tough to find spotless if that one is the highest graded - maybe it was the tobacco in the cig vending machines.
My guess is that there's someone out there with stupid money and little patience and they bought the slab. The spot doesn't bother me, but at that price it shouldn't have it.
I guess if they really want it they will pay. Bid war?
The spot would make that coin a no go for me however.

I paid $19,500 for my 1955 DDO cent in PCGS MS-65 RD which bwas in the OGH slab back in 1995. I was told I overpaid for this coin, It was the nicest one I could find. Totally spot-free. Stewart Blay really wanted to buy it from me for years and years. I refused to sell it to him or anyone else. He was angry that I refused to sell it to him. CAC green stickered back in 2008 when they were doing free submissions at the CT coin show.
It has been 17 years since the green sticker, do they have a 'reconsideration' service to see if you can get a gold?
The top or near top pops go for big bucks when more than one person wants it

Simply send it back to CAC for another evaluation. Easy as pie.

Just blow up the image of both Stewart Blay’s cents as well as mine to view again. There is no shame in maxing out at MS-65RD as 65 is a gem uncirculated grade. 66 is SUPERB (#2) gem uncirculated grade.
