1 Tom Terrific has not yet reached a level of calling/analyzing a game to have been hired to broadcast a superbowl.

2 The half-time show will go down as the worst show in the history of the superbowl half-time shows.

Tom's commentary was Cringeworthy. I respect him as the greatest QB ever, but this is not his thing for sure.

Overall I give the total broadcast inclusive of the game itself, halftime show, and commercials a letter grade of "D". Not much to remember as the years go by.

The entire thing from start to finish was a huge let down

24-0 and the game was over in the 2nd quarter

Very disappointed but that sums up the NFL if you invest anything into it.

Cheer up now we have got baseball and at least we get to watch something every day.

Oh please. We've had high school bands, Up With People multiple times, and various other nonsense. Kendrick isn't my thing but he had 70,000 people chanting lyrics. Nowhere near the worst.

Brady was fine. A couple funny lines mixed in decent analysis. He's fine. Olsen is better.

    { he had 70,000 people chanting lyrics}
All the noise at halftime from the crowd was pumped in through loudspeakers. You think all the people there that bought tickets even knew his name let alone the lyrics??? :D:D:D

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

  • Kendrick Lamar has won 22 Grammy Awards and is the only non-classical/Jazz musician to win a Pulitzer Prize for his music, but nah, nobody knows who he is, he's just a bum. LOL. He's one of the most brilliant hip hop artists to ever live. His halftime show wasn't just a show, it was a message, and judging by people's reactions since then, the message was received loud and clear. I'll leave it at that.

Please tell us what you thought the message being delivered by that show was supposed to be.

The "message" was received by fans watching the broadcast not in attendance at the game. Speaking only for myself, prior to the hype starting recently I had never heard of Kendrick Lamar and aside from anything posted in this thread still no nothing about him. I have no way of knowing with certainty, but I would guess that sentiment is shared by most non hip-hop fans.

Back to Tom Brady the broadcaster, he seems to lack the powerful voice associated with most of the color guys and for the player he was doesn't have much insight into what's going on in the game. Knowing TB I bet he improves with a lot of off-season work.

Not getting into that, you're a grown man, why don't you take the initiative to do the research yourself.

I never heard of Lamar either, I read a google pop up that the NFL sent a letter of apology to lil Wayne? I've heard of lil Wayne but didn't even read it because I simply never cared about hip. hop or Super Bowl. half time shows.

    Agreed about Brady

Just because a halftime performer conveys their "message", doesn't mean it's fact, and usually it isn't.

I didn't watch the halftime show, as I normally don't. Put AC/DC on there and I'll watch it. 😉

It is indeed fact and justified, can't discuss it here. Moving on.

There’s no use trying to convince the stubborn old knobs here of reality. But it’s super fun regardless. Don’t give up.

Absent any reply I’ll just assume @granitechin is a troll who likes hip hop and move on.

Got what? I just said it was received. If you don't follow the artist or know what he is communicating to his audience, then the message probably wasn't meant for you anyways. The real issue here is what the NFL execs were thinking in bringing it to their audience. How many people got up and walked away from their BIG SHOW at halftime because they didn't want to see or hear it?

I lack the energy or motivation to care about the halftime show at the Super Bowl. I took my son to a Chance the Rapper concert recently. Wasn't necessarily my thing, but it wasn't terrible. Lots of teens and young adults all capturing every second on their cell phones. I thought it was funny, but I'm sure my parents thought I was just as lame.

I attended the game in South Florida '07 to support the Bears, my favorite team. What I didn't expect was A) Persistent rain throughout the game, although it was predicted. By the time it was over, myself and my son were soaking wet. We didn't wear the plastic parkas they gave out. :D ......but, B) We got to see Prince, which, by many accounts was the greatest halftime show EVER. I'll take it. It was pretty amazing. My team lost (damn you Peyton Manning), but I saw friggin PRINCE!

Re: Chance The Rapper - saw him headline Lollapalooza in Chicago some years ago, and it was a good show, but from where we were standing in what they classified as a VIP area, some really tall dude kept standing in front of us while hosting a bunch of curious folks, mostly women, and buying everyone drinks. It was Jimmy Butler blocking my view. HMMMPH! :/ Short time after that, he got traded to Minnesota. Take that Jimmy.

I have to agree with you there on that Prince halftime show. I thought that one was pretty good. I also liked the U2 halftime show. Must have been sweet one to see in person. It's also cool that you collect those memories with your son - that's what matters.

This reminds me of when my father took my youngest sister to. a New kids on the block concert in the late 80's or early 90's

He was 100% out of place but you do stuff for your kids and loved ones.

Regarding this guy Lamar who I've never heard of i didn't watch the half time show because I just never do but taking away any political or non political "Message" that was supposedly sent who cares if some people chose to enjoy it or not.

I am curious as to why lil Wayne got an apology from the NFL though, I might read that and report back if I don't forget lol

It tells me that Jay Z better stay in line or else she knows what to do.

  • @Maywood, And by the way, I'm not a hip hop troll, who I am and what planet I'm from is none of your concern. Now I would suggest you go do some exercise, perhaps some diddly-squats, the perfect workout for lazy people.

133.5 million viewers tuned in to Kendrick's performance, a new record for the halftime show, not bad for a bum nobody's ever heard of. 🤣😭

The Halftime show was terrible, and I will tell you why. A halftime show is supposed to be, first and foremost, entertainment. Entertainment to appeal to the masses. If you need to know the "backstory" before the performance, that performance has failed at its main goal, entertainment for the masses.

I am so tired of hearing on social media about how most people just "didnt get it" or "didnt understand the message" so their opinions dont matter.

it was a performance for those "in the know" not for the masses. A performance that failed as a halftime show. Probably would be great for a music festival though.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,493 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tom was fine, but I admittedly have low standards for broadcasters. I did find it interesting when he said the 3 SB losses have bothered him more than the 7 wins have given him joy.

I obviously never played pro ball, but I find myself feeling the same way.

they cant tell you because the "message" was so powerful and deep. only the select few are socially conscious and intelligent enough to "get it"

when it comes to the halftime show, and music in general (be it hip hop, country, rock, r&b, classical, whatever) I really dont care. I would 100% rather spend my free time listening to true crime podcasts. Yup, I am definitely old now.

what I take offense to is when some folks try to insinuate that I am just too uneducated to "get the deep message" some 30 something inserted into his "art" lets not make this out to be more than what it is. It was a guy singing songs (or rapping them) its all been done before. Yup, he won some popularity awards (grammys, pulitzer etc.) color me unimpressed. have you seen the person the academy put up for best actress?? I rest my case

I nominate DD for the biggest loser ever to grace these forums

    Talk about derangement lol

This clown has had more user names than Pete Rose had hits and has said 'My last post on this" then proceeds to white knuckle the keyboard and furiously punch out complete and utter idiocy

If this new user name actually isn't DD I nominate him as the 2nd biggest loser to ever grace these forums.

And for the record I don't care who hates my guts, my hate for lunacy is stronger

What's epic and hilarious DD is you spend your time trying to spread your venom to an audience of maybe 8 to 10 people here in which more than half don't care about a single thing anyone has to say about politics yet here you are wasting your time

75% of the country overwhelmingly disagrees with your garbage so you would be better suited to waste your time running through the streets screaming your lungs out about how angry you are but I get it, it's 100% safer to type it on a keyboard than in the real world because you would end up being called out on it face to face and you would absolutely soil yourself
