I'm a fan of those with OPC but know some aren't.

I wish Steve would characterize the state of the packs in opened boxes. My biggest complaint with BBCE isn't the authentication errors, it's that you can't inspect the packs themselves to see if they have been destroyed or not.

Steve won't wrap a box if the packs are damaged or trashed.

This has not been my experience, but I'm glad you haven't had issues with BBCE regarding this.

I'm very surprised...Steve will even note the label if packs have price stickers on them. The vast majority of BBCE boxes I've seen unwrapped are akin to the 78 OPC box you broke here with clean packs within.

That Classic Auctions case is not marked FASC, which is strange since they have the boxes staged around the case. I imagine the original owner cracked to take a peak at some point.

Are these wax boxes FASC? I do not see that designation on the BBCE labels. I also didn't see if the packs had price stickers on them.
No, the 1978 OPC box broke here was not FASC but was "Tape Intact," which is very similar to FASC for OPC wax in that the packs are intact and original to the box.

Here's how they turned out. Honestly I would have had these reversed. This one which was from the more clean-cut box sits pretty loose in the holder which I don't like. If they hurry back they can make it to a private signing coming up soon.
There is a chance that they may have been reversed during slabbing... But if you look at the edges on the back, it might be correct. But with that tilt, it is hard to say that it has the eye appeal of a 9. Great cards though.
The roughest. I think this got penalized for the edges. I’m not a fan of the holder choice but perhaps it was unavoidable. I might get this one signed while I can.
The tilt looks a bit distracting for anyone with centering OCD but that card is super clean and razor sharp and accurately graded imo.

Should have been an 8, but I think it got an extra -1 because the right edge rough has basically rounded the top right corner. And it is slightly oversize/miscut since it doesn't fit in the normal holder.
the 8.5 is better centered but has some snow on the front. Both are fantastic cards are deserve the grades you got. I think the 9 is way under valued. Most of the time they sell for about the same price as the topps, but boy are they way much harder to find.
I don't disagree with any of the commentary. I decided to keep the PSA 8.5 in the slab as it's the one I consider the best and it will go into my set. I cracked the PSA 9 and it's off with another raw Murray for autograph at an upcoming private signing.

Couldn't you have found a lower grade Murray to sign? Cracking a PSA 9 78 OPC Murray made me wince lol.

I am trying to upgrade a PSA 8 OPC Murray. The good news is that there will be one less "PSA 9 (as if this means anything)" Murray out there and the value of others is that fraction higher...

What he said. That made me cringe also. I am concerned anything I cracked out would grade 2 grades lower when I attempted to shove it back in the holder. But best of luck with the regrade. Rooting for it staying a 9 with a cool auto. Eddie will be in Chantilly, VA in 2 weeks BTW. On the fence there about getting an auto even though I do have something to sign that would work.

This is what I’m looking for with OPC. Even rough cut with 55-45 centering and popping color. Best OPC Murray I’ve held.
Nice pull on the Eddie Murray RC!
I’m going to send this one off to PSA unmarked to see what it yields. I think I just saw an express special announced today.
What is meant by "unmarked"
Ruining a card by having a player scribble his name on it.
An Autograph?
Better be a 9 or the torches and pitchforks board members gonna go ballistic.
.
I could see 8 happening, but I think it's a nice 9.

Great Murray. I regret selling my 9.

I was poking fun at bgr because I know he collects autos on vintage cards.
More power to him of course, but I do die a little inside when I see it.
Classic Auctions in Canada has a 1978 OPC case that’s about to close. Current high bid is a little under $36K (USD). https://www.classicauctions.net/1978_O_Pee_Chee_Baseball_Full_Case_of_24_Wax_Boxes-LOT178657.aspx

The better of the two in my opinion.
Congrats on those 2 Murray beauties!

I got this one signed. My guess the card
grades a 5 or 6 and auto is a 10.
