1976 Topps.George Brett PSA 9
I have not seen this card up for sale in over a year. Does anyone know of a recent sale or one that's for sale? Does anyone have an idea how much this would sell for in today's market?

I bet it's a 10-15k card now. I own an 8.5 and have resigned the 9 ain't gonna happen!

Agree if it didn’t have print defects $7,700 seems cheap to me for that card. However, not one I would pay that for because I am less focused on the 70s except 71 than the 50s or 60s. If one went for less than $10K I would be surprised. He should be like Mantle and Munson where his second card in high grade outsells the rookie due to how tough the ‘76 is.

This card is and always will be a "bear". Nearly impossible to find in any acceptable high grade. The Holy Grail is probably still hiding in a vending box or unopened product. We may never see it in this lifetime because the holders of such are afraid to bust them and be disappointed. It's a very big gamble, but someday it will be a hit.
I hereby refuse to bust any of my '76T Baseball.

There's a 76 PSA 9 Bret on EBAY for sale. Any predictions if this will sell right away. Asking price is $11,500 but I'm positive he would take less. I'm thinking 10K would do it.

That’s not a crazy asking price for that card. That’s as tough an any in the 70s to find in a high grade.

That card was purchased on 12/12/2024 for $11,500, so I doubt the seller would want to lose although after fees, etc at the asking price, he will lose a bit. Why purchase a chase card for a small fortune and resell at the same price 6 weeks later? Hmmm...

I contacted the seller and he will take less which is why I said I'm positive he would take less.

People do strange things. I never have understood people moving to other cards and saying I don’t need that card because I once owned it. I would feel like I used to have that and now I don’t - I need to fix that. Maybe 6 weeks was long enough for owner to scratch that itch.

I could think of a lot of reasons. Medical, Financial, a death, job loss, Car repair, legal, taxes, divorce, selling out, buyer remorse.............

So true are your reasons. We are trained to believe in nefarious behavior on the famous website. Hopefully, this sale wouldn't be necessitated by an emergency or imminent need.

Wish it were centered a bit better L/R especially for that kind of coin but I've seen worse.

Looks like several print defects, bottom right corner and a print dot beside his head and maybe some PD to the right of his head. Based on the centering and these print defects, I would say that this is a very nice 8 possibly an 8.5. A 9 seems a little dicey to me. For $10,000 or more I would want it to look a little nicer.

The centering is sweet considering how tough the card inherently is. 💥 I've seen PD's on 10 vintage cards that rival or blow this 9 away.

im sure there are many 10's that look worse. i have a 50/50 8 with less pd. but i don't think its a 9. but it looks great. this 9 is a very nice card,

When I first bought that 9 it was a POP 7 or so. Now there are thirty three 9's. Still a super rare and tough card in a 9. A POP one 10 (if it ever happens) will go for big bucks.

Smart! As many older slabs have wrinkled labels thus less desirability to some potential buyin' eyes

I wish this came up for sale in about a year. I'm retiring in less than a year and will have money available to me at that time. I plan on buying this card once I retire. I started buying packs as a kid right about this time (1976) and remember having so many of them. I don't remember this card having centering issues and when I returned to the hobby after being away for over two decades, I was surprised to learn how rare the card was in mint condition.
I'm a huge Yankee fan and I remember watching the 76-78, and 80 American League Championship series between the Yankees and Royals. Brett would destroy Yankee pitching and was one of the few players in MLB who could consistently hit Goose Gossage during his prime. I highly recommend watching some of the playoff games on YOUTUBE. Incredible games especially the 1976 game 5 which decided the American League Championship. If you are a Royal fan watch game 3 of the 1980 series.

Can you guys tell me why Probstein is so unpopular? I was out of the hobby from the late 90's until 2022/2023. I have purchased about 10 Hall of famers in PSA 9 condition from him. All cards were between 1976-1979 and all PSA 9's. The cards have not been expensive, usually under $100.. Examples include 78 Carlton, Brock, Fisk, Winfield in PSA 9 and I have never had one issue with him. I make the payment and usually have the cards within 5 days.
Do I have anything to worry about with the cards/slabs I purchased?

Read the hundreds of ebay negative feedback just from the past month and know that is just tip of iceberg!

For me it was:
His ol standby BAU; purchase 2 cards send only one then ghost you. Then have to fight tooth and nail with ebay to try for the money back while the next week he relists the same missing card as he felt it did not command enough the first time.
Luckily at that time had my PayPal linked with my Amex.
IF you are serious then read the Feedback. The common themes provide plenty of context and as mentioned are only tip of iceberg!

I have had good selling results with Rick as well. He used to be a semi active member on the boards but not anymore.
You will also see a lot of PWCC bashing but they also produce good results when you need to sell.

To anyone's knowledge has he ever been accused of "playing with the slabs"?. I purchased from him in the first couple of months I returned to the hobby and did not check the slabs thoroughly like I do now.

Regarding consigning to be sold on eBay, IMHO use Greg Morris or 4SC not the NJ entity being discussed.

At this point Probstein, to me, refers to the business and no longer the individual. I always found Rick Probstein to be a bit detestable with regard to his selling practices... He's not necessarily a bad person, but pushes the boundaries of integrity as a seller is how I would put it. I've never heard anything about messing with slabs - assuming you mean fake slabs/labels or card swaps.
I say this as I continue to buy cards from Probstein of course. They're a large consignor and have a lot of items come through their store that I want. Just know what you're getting in to. Aside from an amazing string of luck winning so many auctions right at my max bid I have had no issues with Probstein.

I bought a vending case back in the 80s and still have all the cards.. Not one gradable (chance for a 9) Brett came out of it. The centering is so bad on this year but this card in particular. I have maybe 10-20 of each star with literally 0 chance of a 9+ out of them all. I went through the stack of Ryans last night and most barely have a bottom border.
