FUN Show 70th Anniversary report.
I got up at dark+ on Wednesday to catch a nonstop ( all on points ) flight to Orlando. After an uneventful flight I arrived in Orlando just before noon. While I was in line at the car rental booth, I saw Melissa Kahn and her brother behind me. She said that David was not coming to the show. I got a car and drove straight to the convention center. Even though I had prepaid for an early bird badge it was a long wait to get my badge. It was a mob scene. The show opened for set up at 2PM. Later I checked my bag into the security room and went to Red Lobster for dinner.
Thursday, I arrived at the show a little before the 8:30 opening. I started looking at the tables in the front of the room for coins that I needed. At 10AM I started at aisle 100 on a systematic search. After a while I saw an 1800 Bust Dollar in PCGS AU 53. It was nice but not quite what I was looking for. I decided to pass for the time being. After another hour I saw another Bust Dollar this time in PCGS AU 55. It was really nice. After looking at it and thinking about it for a little, I stepped up the plate and made the purchase. I took another coin to Messydesk to image for me. I soon saw Ed at Emporium Currency. He said that he had gotten back some of the currency that was stolen from him after he left the CSNS show in May. I purchased a $10 North Africa note in 53 from him. At one table I saw over 250 Flowing Hair and Bust Dollars in PCGS and NGC holders. A lot of them were damaged and not straight graded but holy crap. I have never seen that many in all of my 60 years of attending coin shows. By 1 PM the floor was very crowded. Said hello to the guys from West Coast Coin and Deplorable Dan. I retrieved my coin from Messydesk. Continuing on I finished aisle 800 and decided to stop for the day. I went to Perkins for dinner. It was not good.
Friday, I arrived at the show at a little before the 8:30 opening. I went to the Heritage auction lot viewing. I looked at several pieces of currency and one coin. The coin had a good image at the Heritage site but there is nothing like seeing it in person. The coin looked far, far better in person than the image. I next started in aisle 900 where I had left off yesterday. I said hello to Grant Campbell and also Liz.
At 11:00 I went upstairs to the PCGS luncheon. They had a large grilled chicken breast over mashed potatoes and then lemon cake for dessert. It was very good. The prices at the bourse floor concession stands are to the moon. A BBQ sandwich is $15.25, and a bowl of orange chicken and rice is $19.oo. I then went back to the bourse floor. I saw 2 coins that I liked but do not really need. I decided to think about them. After covering the floor again, I decided to call it a day.
On Saturday morning I checked out of the hotel and went back to the convention center to get my case out of security. I then went to take another look at one of the coins that I saw yesterday. After checking last night, I found out that it would be an upgrade for one of my type coins. I got to the table at the 8:30 opening but had to wait till 9: 35 for the dealer to arrive. I purchased the coin and then headed to the airport.
At the airport I had an Auntie Anne's Pretzel Dog. I love those things. The flight home was uneventful, and I got home about 2 hours after dark.
The FUN show was a great way to start the year. I really enjoyed the show and hope to be back next year!

Thank you for a very nice report.
Great report. I saw the security room and wondered what is needed to get those privileges.
I was fortunate to lot view Thursday at a time when it was not crowded. I was told by the nice lady helping me that Wednesday was crazy crowded for lot viewing with people standing to wait their turn.

Thanks for the report. It was a good read. Your Draped Bust Dollar sounds very nice. Do you have pictures of it to post? I'd love to see it. One of those has always been on my short list of must-have purchases.

I do not have photos yet.
To be fair, once you had eaten at Red Lobster everything else, for example, Perkins Restaurant & Bakery will pale in comparison.
It would be like viewing all of TomB's Washington quarters and then looking through those that are gathered nightly at your local laundromat.
Rebirth. Renewal. Transformation.
Nice report, glad you had no issues and back home safe
Looking forward to seeing that Bust Dollar as I am looking for one myself
