PCGS Magic "floating" coin mount - How'd they do it?

Got this G25C back from my latest submission today and I have to say I have never seen a coin mounted like this. Even some I got a few weeks ago had traditional rubber inserts. You would think the coin would just be loose but I can shake the slab and it doesn't move. I cannot detect that it is sandwiched between any material either. I am truly amazed at this one.

    Looks interesting. In the past they used 2 sheets of thin plastic.

    It’s obviously the same as the Airview. The prongs don’t serve a purpose.

    The coin is held between two discs of clear flexible plastic and the discs are held together by the slots in the prongs.

    I wonder how the optics will be as the plastic gel or whatever they use ages? 10 years form now? Yellow haze like the OGH round inserts sometimes? The more substance layers one puts over the coin the more things can go wrong. I prefer one layer of plastic, and air. We will see how it goes…………

    I don't like the long prongs but they are way, way better than surrounding that tiny coin and having it tilted in the ring.

    Those are two thin sheets of clear silicone held together by an opaque disk. Like the magnetic "magic" display boxes.

    As for the OP coin, it's just being suspended between two sheets of clear plastic, the gasket and prongs are just sharing the same space. If you wanted it would be a simple matter to tap it into a centered position, but no guarantee you can center it and have it be perfectly aligned up and down in relation to the holder.

    The prongs would work fine if the coin was large enough to meet them. As it is, the piece is just suspended between two thin sheets of clear material. What the prongs are doing is pressing against this clear plastic sandwich as well, so more or less keeping the coin mostly centered. But it could for sure be tapped around and adjusted.

    Yeah, that must be the case. It is very well done though. I've looked at it from every angle and cannot detect the clear plastic.

    Tapping it did move the coin around.
