Welcome to December! The Holiday season is upon us, it seems! 🎁🎄☃️
To celebrate, I will offer another “pick your prize” giveaway. We will have a random drawing on or shortly after Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, depending on my schedule. You may consider this contest open for entries until such time as I’ve announced the drawing and marked it closed.
To enter, all you have to do is pick your preferred prize out of the Giveaway Gallery (free store) linked below, AND state what made you choose that particular lot.
That last bit is important. You need to state not just WHAT your prize choice is, but WHY you chose it, in a few words.
That’s all. No further strings attached (except your promise to post a confirmation here after you receive the goods).

Note that I have a ton of giveaways presently going on CoinTalk, so there is a chance your chosen prize may be gone by the time of the drawing (but only a tiny chance of that- and you’d get to choose again in the unlikely event of that happening.)
Additionally, there may be new prize options added to the Giveaway Gallery as the month proceeds. So your prize choice need not be final. You’ll get a chance to change your mind at the end if you want to. I just like to see people’s preliminary picks up front, because it gives me an idea of what’s popular and helps me shop for future giveaway offerings.
Alternately, you may nominate someone else as your proxy, if you’re not interested in winning the prize yourself. If you do that, you do not need to pick a prize, since your proxy will get their choice if your entry wins for them.

Due to other holiday activity, the selection in my Giveaway Gallery (free store) is kind of small as of this post, but I’m hoping to add new goodies before Christmas.

I should explain, though it’s not so easy to.
You see, in requiring folks to say WHY they picked a particular prize, I learn something about how people collect. Sometimes it’s obvious (“because I like big silver”). Other times it contains a personal anecdote, like @JBK’s comment about the Hungarian coin above. (I like those kind of comments the most).
Also, the “why” requirement is there so folks don’t just post a one- or two-word reply to say “gimme”, and then bugger off into the mist. I get less satisfaction from the giveaway then.

The two-coin lot presently listed is not a “Morgan or Peace” lot. It is a Morgan and Peace dollar lot. The winner gets both coins.
There is a separate, single-coin Morgan dollar lot (an 1896), and I intend to be adding some other single-coin lots of both types soon- perhaps even before the drawing.

1943s ms66 mercury dime please. This is me and my daughter's favorite coin to collect as she just got into it and I recently started again recently it would be an amazing piece for our collection considering we it would be our first graded coin . Thanks

Thank you for the opportunity, most generous of you. The 1943-S Mercury would be my choice. Been trying to nudge my grandson into the hobby. I think he would enjoy this. Not many his age (12) have even seen a Mercury dime.

1943 steel Lincoln Wheat cent (NGC MS66) I was explaining to my grandson how there is one coin that would stick to his magnet, he doesn't believe me. This would be a great first coin in his collection~

I would choose the 2021 silver eagle. I like it because the design on the reverse is a massive upgrade to the previous years'. I have yet to add one to my collection.
The hammered Cob Undated....... I found one on the shores of Lake Erie while metal detecting. This would be a great addition to my cob collection of one. . Finding one was a great thrill finding another very doubtful... Mine needs a brother..

Wow! That’s amazing, particularly in that geographical location! In my GA-FL-SC-NC detecting career (1992-2013), I dug some Spanish silver, but never a silver cob. At a Spanish mission site, I did once dig a 1658 4-maravedis piece that was struck in cob style, but that’s copper.

Added a slabbed Morgan and some other new stuff to the prize selections. And I’m not done yet.
I’ve had fun with these giveaways, so I intend to expand the little “free store” in the upcoming months. Will probably find some more goodies at the 2025 FUN show in January, strictly for the sake of eventually giving them away.
I do question my own sanity on this sometimes, but I guess it’s OK as long as I’m having fun with everyone else. These days, I get as much fun out of adding a $25-50+ coin to someone else’s collection- as much as I would in adding a $250-500+ coin to my own collection.
