[CLOSED] LordM Holiday Giveaway, 2024
UPDATE, 12/25/24: this contest is now CLOSED. @Cazkaboom won the drawing.
Welcome to December! The Holiday season is upon us, it seems! 🎁🎄☃️
To celebrate, I will offer another “pick your prize” giveaway. We will have a random drawing on or shortly after Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, depending on my schedule. You may consider this contest open for entries until such time as I’ve announced the drawing and marked it closed.
To enter, all you have to do is pick your preferred prize out of the Giveaway Gallery (free store) linked below, AND state what made you choose that particular lot.
That last bit is important. You need to state not just WHAT your prize choice is, but WHY you chose it, in a few words.
That’s all. No further strings attached (except your promise to post a confirmation here after you receive the goods).
https://www.colleconline.com/en/collection-items/21292/coins-giveaway-gallery
Note that I have a ton of giveaways presently going on CoinTalk, so there is a chance your chosen prize may be gone by the time of the drawing (but only a tiny chance of that- and you’d get to choose again in the unlikely event of that happening.)
Additionally, there may be new prize options added to the Giveaway Gallery as the month proceeds. So your prize choice need not be final. You’ll get a chance to change your mind at the end if you want to. I just like to see people’s preliminary picks up front, because it gives me an idea of what’s popular and helps me shop for future giveaway offerings.
Alternately, you may nominate someone else as your proxy, if you’re not interested in winning the prize yourself. If you do that, you do not need to pick a prize, since your proxy will get their choice if your entry wins for them.
Happy Holidays, and a safe and prosperous New Year.
~Robertson (“Rob”) Shinnick, aka “LordM”
Comments
Due to other holiday activity, the selection in my Giveaway Gallery (free store) is kind of small as of this post, but I’m hoping to add new goodies before Christmas.
Again, if I do, and you’d rather have one of the newly-added prizes, you’ll get that option after the drawing, should you win.
Thanks for the chance. Morgan/Peace dollar lot....classic designs and nice heavy silver
Thanks for the chance. You always have good giveaways. It's hard to decide but probably the 1836 Dime or 1856 Large Cent. If I win I'll give it to my nephew who I'm trying to get interested in coins.
Canuck Large Cent. Thanks. I can see Canada from my house.

You’re supposed to also state WHY you chose what you did.
I’ll let you slide on that this time, though, since your Greyside proclivity is already well known to me.
I do not require an essay, folks. Merely a few words will do.
world coin lot
it's history and era discovery plus they are little bits of coin diplomacy
Thanks for the chance to win!
Prefered prize: United States: pair of silver dollars (1921-S Morgan type and 1935 Peace type)
Why: I really like the morgan and peace dollar
Very handsome coins.
The substantial truth doctrine is an important defense in defamation law that allows individuals to avoid liability if the gist of their statement was true.
I'd love to enter again for the Spanish half-real because I love the look of those coins. I have a Mexican one, but it's not slabbed. Thank you @lordmarcovan for another opportunity!

The 1967 Canada set, the designs of which I have always loved. Thanks!!
I like the 1921-S Morgan and 1935 Peace silver dollars because that's the last year for their respective type.
Thanks for the opportunity.
1921-s Morgan and 1935 Peace Dollars would be my choice so I could give them to my son Jacob for his small collection.
Thank you for the chance.
I like medieval history and coins, so my choice would be the Hungary: 1550-KB silver denar of Ferdinand I.
Thanks!
witty quote goes here
Thank-you for the chance,,,
I would choose the 1921-S Morgan & 1935 Peace Dollar because I like large silver coins and especially silver dollars.
Thx for the giveaway!
I'll take the 1550 Hungarian coin.
First, I've been to Hungary, and second, because the Madonna and child design fits in with the Christmas theme.
If you just want to send it to me now and beat the Holiday rush that's fine with me.
The Spanish half real. I have never owned old Spanish silver, but something I plan to get started on.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas
Thank you for your efforts. Count me in and, Like ajaan, the 1919 Canadian large cents
Thanks for the chance. I'm in for the 1967 canada set.

Also like ajaan, you didn’t post the “why”.
You’re also supposed to say WHY you want the lot.
Again, I do not require an essay. Merely a few words are sufficient.
Guess I’ll edit the instructions in the intro so that point is clearer. Thanks.
I should explain, though it’s not so easy to.
You see, in requiring folks to say WHY they picked a particular prize, I learn something about how people collect. Sometimes it’s obvious (“because I like big silver”). Other times it contains a personal anecdote, like @JBK’s comment about the Hungarian coin above. (I like those kind of comments the most).
Also, the “why” requirement is there so folks don’t just post a one- or two-word reply to say “gimme”, and then bugger off into the mist. I get less satisfaction from the giveaway then.
Morgan or the Peace for me. My son loves the size of the dollar coins. These would be his. Thanks!
The two-coin lot presently listed is not a “Morgan or Peace” lot. It is a Morgan and Peace dollar lot. The winner gets both coins.
There is a separate, single-coin Morgan dollar lot (an 1896), and I intend to be adding some other single-coin lots of both types soon- perhaps even before the drawing.
The Hungarian silver denar. I give presentations to the public about stories behind coins, and this piece would be perfect.

Count me in for the 1873 arrows 25c. Still missing this type in hopes that I can win this example.

1943s ms66 mercury dime please. This is me and my daughter's favorite coin to collect as she just got into it and I recently started again recently it would be an amazing piece for our collection considering we it would be our first graded coin . Thanks
I just added a couple more coins to the Giveaway Gallery and there will be 8-10 more new additions to come soon.
If you already posted an entry but wish to change your prize selection to one of the newer additions later, that’s no problem. You’ll get a chance to do that at the end, if you happen to win the drawing.
Bolivia cob
I've dug up many reales but never a cob. I was a pirate in a previous life.
Have a safe and joyous Xmas season. Peace Roy

1836 silver Capped Bust dime! Don't have any Capped Bust coins in my collection so this would fill a spot!
THANKS for the chance! Morgan and Peace Dollars! You know me! I have always had a LOVE for the CARTWELLS!!!!

@Barbercoin - it appears you were trying to post an entry but you posted it on my “wall” in my profile, not here. Please repost here so I’ll see it when I do the drawing.
Okay. I was looking at the 39 Mr. Lincoln. Reason being is that 39 was such a blockbuster year for not only world events, but some of the best time honored films ever made.

Thanks for the chance!
I would choose the 1836 capped bust dime as it would fill a much needed hole in my type set.

New prize options added to the Giveaway Gallery (free store), and more to come. Likely more new prize additions before the drawing, even.
Thank you for the opportunity, most generous of you. The 1943-S Mercury would be my choice. Been trying to nudge my grandson into the hobby. I think he would enjoy this. Not many his age (12) have even seen a Mercury dime.
The slabbed cent—
—because the description matches two objects.
Thanks for the chance Robertson.
If I win I'd take the United States: 1945-S silver 5-cents, Jefferson "wartime" issue, ex-Omaha Bank Hoard (PCGS MS66) for my eldest boy since he collects US coins.
Peace
Oh, c’mon, man! LOL 😂
Edit: Aha! I Google Image-searched that car pic. 1939 Lincoln Zephyr.
I think I see what you did there, and shall take the all-too subtle hint.
I appreciate the fun!
1939 Wheat Penny. Wheats store what got me in to collecting
New stuff added to the Giveaway Gallery. More to come.
1943 steel Lincoln Wheat cent (NGC MS66) I was explaining to my grandson how there is one coin that would stick to his magnet, he doesn't believe me. This would be a great first coin in his collection~
Thanks for the opportunity!
I would choose the 2021 silver eagle. I like it because the design on the reverse is a massive upgrade to the previous years'. I have yet to add one to my collection.
The hammered Cob Undated....... I found one on the shores of Lake Erie while metal detecting. This would be a great addition to my cob collection of one. . Finding one was a great thrill finding another very doubtful... Mine needs a brother..
Thanks Jim
Wow! That’s amazing, particularly in that geographical location! In my GA-FL-SC-NC detecting career (1992-2013), I dug some Spanish silver, but never a silver cob. At a Spanish mission site, I did once dig a 1658 4-maravedis piece that was struck in cob style, but that’s copper.
Added a slabbed Morgan and some other new stuff to the prize selections. And I’m not done yet.
I’ve had fun with these giveaways, so I intend to expand the little “free store” in the upcoming months. Will probably find some more goodies at the 2025 FUN show in January, strictly for the sake of eventually giving them away.
I do question my own sanity on this sometimes, but I guess it’s OK as long as I’m having fun with everyone else. These days, I get as much fun out of adding a $25-50+ coin to someone else’s collection- as much as I would in adding a $250-500+ coin to my own collection.
Nothing nicer than a penny in golden orange. United States: 1939 bronze Lincoln Wheat cent. And this one’s a beauty.
thank you for the chance to win.
1895 barber quarter
i chose it because my 1896-s needs companionship
ASE new reverse. Never seen one in hand.
I numbered off the posts and used a random number generator to pick our lucky winner, who is...
@Cazkaboom !
Coingratulations, @Cazkaboom ! Go back to the link in the OP and have another look at the Giveaway Gallery, because I added quite a bit of new stuff throughout the month. Make sure of your final selection, and let me know.
If it's still the Silver Eagle you want, then that's what you shall have!
Merry Christmas to all, and a happy upcoming New Year!
