I would say the medieval period ended around 1500, so you’re right - it is a bit of a stretch.

Here is my latest ancient acquisition:

I've been working on Roman Imperial coins for the past 5 years or so. Because Jewish history and Roman history are so fascinating and intertwined, I think a few examples of coins from the Jewish wars are essential to the collection. Many of you will recognize this as a shekel from the first Jewish war, likely minted with silver from the Temple in Jerusalem. The later Bar Kokhba coins are a bit easier to obtain, but also represent important history and a fascinating numismatic endeavor; unlike the coin shown above, the Bar Kokhba coins were stamped on top of Roman denarii.

Here is my journey with Edward I pennies.

I bought this one as a curiously before I knew much of anything about hammer struck British coins.

I replaced it with this one. The ghosting, from the deep cross on the reverse, got to me, however, and I looked for another.

My latest is this one where he has somewhat of a "dog face."

Perhaps some day, which I'm feeling rich and get lucky, I'll go for a groat (The medieval "great silver" coin). The Edward I gorats and quite scarce and many of the survivors have been used for jewelry. I don't want one of those. Here is a Henry VI groat. These pieces are fairly common.
