Why is there always a "know-it-all" on these boards - it seems the Coin Community has so many!

    The classic "know it all" on Cheers, Cliff , loved to claim expertise on a lot of things, but was passive and not trying to insult other people.
    Oh, I see now.
    So that's why they call it "The Cliff Notes"?
    What ?

    More than once.
    I believe she still posts over on the CAC forums.

    Definitely an interesting thread! I feel I have a moderate amount of coin knowledge, and I am always happy to share it when I can, but I’m the first to admit I have a lot to learn myself, and this board has always been my absolute favorite anywhere on the Internet.

    Every member on this board I consider as friends. There’s so much ugliness in this world these days, this place is my escape from that.

    Amen: I'm grateful this board exists. Enjoy many threads posted here. I can always learn something new. To those who
    are truly "know-it-alls", I question why you're here. What benefit could you possibly receive other than demonstrating
    your vast knowledge. Those who are on here to share your knowledge, Thank you. We can benefit from each other's

    I'm glad to take knowledge where I can find it regardless of the source. Most of you all know a heck of a lot more than me about numismatics and I'm happy to have found this forum.

    Even the drama can be amusing/entertaining to some extent :smiley: .

    Agreed. A better proxy for overall quality contribution would be a points per post ratio. For example, you have 6.8k points over 2,754 posts, or 2.47 points per post. For context, compare that to:

    DeplorableDan = 3.33
    MFeld = 2.14
    Blitzdude = 0.74
    Cougar = 0.44

    Using what I will refer to as the P0cketchange corollary, you forgot a very high quality contributor:

    P0CKETCHANGE = 3.71

    My five stars were EARNED by engaging with not just one but multiple know it alls, each with his own distinctive flavor, through the years.

    A know it all who overtly tells others that they KNOW IT ALL simultaneously conveys information about them that they would not want to be disclosed, ........................ if they really knew it all :) (thus proving that they do not really know it all).

    Cougar gets a 3.71 astonishingly.

    I'm at 2439 Likes and 251 agrees and 850 posts.

    So 2690/850 = 3.165

    (Likes+Agrees)/Lols.
    2690/276=9.746

    No, you're good. It's more a ratio of quality posts to just general posts. If you're posting quality opinions, info, or coins, you get more points and a higher relative score.

    If you're being a knucklehead (as some of us are sometimes) and putting up a lot of gratuitous posts that don't add much, you get a lower score.

    A good score doesn't mean you're numismatist of the year, just a quality member who doesn't fool around that often.

I would love to do a video series of putting the same two people face-to-face for a discussion on the same topic to see what happens when you can't hide behind the computer screen.

    Exactly, people feel safe to hide behind the internet, and don't act the same as they would in person. I fall guilty to this myself at times, but it is best when we all act the same as in person.

    I didn't get on to the internet until 1999; what did we do before then with coins, etc.? I have never seen such significant numismatic (and other) discussions in person because you get a serious concentration here of knowledge, experience and acumen. Unfortunately some of the very knowledgeable but edgy and overly opinionated pros have been banned here, I have seen forums really lose all that jazz by kicking people off, but that's life.

    Joe, it’s worth mentioning that the like/agree/lol functionality didn’t always exist, so veteran members like yourself (you joined in 2002) may naturally have a lower score, NOT because you aren’t a quality contributor.
