Why is there always a "know-it-all" on these boards - it seems the Coin Community has so many!

There is an old expression: “ Beware of people who brag about themselves..A lion doesn’t have to tell you he’s a lion”.

I think that applies to all big cats.

Well then…It sounds like you got the point.

    Applies to hummingbirds too.

The forum wouldn't be as informative if nobody knew anything.

    1 answer: " I dunno"

2 "Know-it-Alls" has not always been hyphenated.

3 A good teacher always knows it all and trashes those that don't. or at least thinks he should.

Okay, anybody know why that post above is in GIANT letters??

I'm a know-it-all. Thank God for know-it-alls! This world wouldn't function without KIAs! Why?

Because we know something you don't know. If you want to know what we know and unlock bountiful treasure and wisdom for yourself, stop insulting us and just ask. Or I'll just tell you and save you the time and anxiety.

It's taken me over 60 years to learn with many failures along the way, just how true is what Mark Twain said:

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. ;)

Agreed. I fell for this back when I posted about VaultBox.

A few negative know-it-alls dragged me down to their level and I left this forum in disgust.

After being away 6 months I have begun posting again with a clearer mind.😉

I feel really sorry for any poster who calls/thinks any other poster here is a know-it-all. I feel especially sorry for those who block others.

I've been around some of the top brains in aerospace and the way they communicate as know-it-all's makes my skin crawl but you know what, they appear to know their stuff. I never met one who had a closed mind and was not eager to to increase and share knowledge with others on or even bellow (me) their level of expertise.

And that's the thing. I'm not jealous of their knowledge or the crappy way they sometimes come across. I'm not a whining little numismatist.

There is one member here who feels the need to comment on almost every post and writes such long posts. I put them on Ignore and the results were amazing. I can scroll through a thread much faster now!😉

I've been posting and reading on these boards for over 20 years. I used to post under a different "handle" and had some lively discussion with other board members with differing opinions many years ago.

It just seems like the coin collecting community has far above the expected share of "know it alls" that just trash others for any reason whatsoever to prove they know more about the topic.

At some shows you find some of the same types, arguing about a coin or pricing - you'd hope they took their meds before coming to the show that day.

    Anyone have the same experience?

Curious, have any of the "know it alls" posted in this thread? o:)

I just thought of something. Several years ago our hosts changed their program and we all lost our avatars. At the same time my post total dropped by some 7-8,000 posts. What year was that? It certainly affects any mathematical ratios.

There is a vast body of knowledge and experience shared among the members of this forum and I’m very thankful for their willingness to share and engage with some of us that are newer to the hobby.
Once is awhile, egos muddle the discussion, but, that’s the way it goes with people and the inefficiency of online discourses.
Some of the interaction's and conflicts between the so called “know it all’s” can get pretty darn entertaining! Many of them do indeed know quite a bit, though likely not all.

The older I get, the more I realize how little I REALLY know about most things.
These days, my more common, and slightly playful response to a question often is…
“I don’t know anything about anything anymore.”
I’m still very much interested in hard truths and facts and strive to approach the world with a childlike sense of wonder and curiousity, hopefully learning more and more each passing day, while trying to be humble. Maintaining an open mind to new material is important, along with a willingness to change my mind if things change.
This forum has been a great resource and I’ve learned, and continue to learn a lot here!
I’m rambling again… sorry…. What is it they say? An empty wagon rattles the most?
    Thank you to all!

Yes agree this message board has a number of those (quote trolls, griefers) I would say about 4 fairly obnoxious active ones (decided to block them). I have decided go to more of a lurker / in the background operational (intel) mode. Then perhaps occasional short, concise post.

    It's a forum.
Everyone is welcome to respond. I don't always like the responses I get when I post. Sometimes they are correct, sometimes they do that brave behind the computer thing.
I appreciate the free advice from the experienced numismatics. I don't consider them know it all but I am sure some do.

The focus upon points and resultant stars is misguided and essentially meaningless.
