One of the reasons I quit posting over at sleepy hollow. Too many people arguing over who is smarter than the other and basically derailing posts. It use to be great forum! This is about the only coin forum I frequent now.
I'm a know-it-all. Thank God for know-it-alls! This world wouldn't function without KIAs! Why?
Because we know something you don't know. If you want to know what we know and unlock bountiful treasure and wisdom for yourself, stop insulting us and just ask. Or I'll just tell you and save you the time and anxiety.

I feel really sorry for any poster who calls/thinks any other poster here is a know-it-all. I feel especially sorry for those who block others.
I've been around some of the top brains in aerospace and the way they communicate as know-it-all's makes my skin crawl but you know what, they appear to know their stuff. I never met one who had a closed mind and was not eager to to increase and share knowledge with others on or even bellow (me) their level of expertise.
And that's the thing. I'm not jealous of their knowledge or the crappy way they sometimes come across. I'm not a whining little numismatist.
There is one member here who feels the need to comment on almost every post and writes such long posts. I put them on Ignore and the results were amazing. I can scroll through a thread much faster now!😉
Not sure how to use the LOL in scoring since believe there are 2 different LOL reactions. Something posted is relevant, clever and funny or something said is really stupid or ignorant. I only use the LOL for the first but think folks also use for the 2nd reaction.

As far as I know the LOLs don't go toward someone's point total. And, yes, LOL can be used two ways, as you indicated.
There used to be a "disagree" button and that took points off your score, but it created so much acrimony that they had to to remove it.

Agree. LOL can mean that you made a clever joke and they are LOLing with you or LOL can mean that you posted something really stupid and they are LOLing at you.

I've been posting and reading on these boards for over 20 years. I used to post under a different "handle" and had some lively discussion with other board members with differing opinions many years ago.
It just seems like the coin collecting community has far above the expected share of "know it alls" that just trash others for any reason whatsoever to prove they know more about the topic.
At some shows you find some of the same types, arguing about a coin or pricing - you'd hope they took their meds before coming to the show that day.
Anyone have the same experience?
Curious, have any of the "know it alls" posted in this thread?

I just thought of something. Several years ago our hosts changed their program and we all lost our avatars. At the same time my post total dropped by some 7-8,000 posts. What year was that? It certainly affects any mathematical ratios.

There is a vast body of knowledge and experience shared among the members of this forum and I’m very thankful for their willingness to share and engage with some of us that are newer to the hobby.
Once is awhile, egos muddle the discussion, but, that’s the way it goes with people and the inefficiency of online discourses.
Some of the interaction's and conflicts between the so called “know it all’s” can get pretty darn entertaining! Many of them do indeed know quite a bit, though likely not all.
The older I get, the more I realize how little I REALLY know about most things.
These days, my more common, and slightly playful response to a question often is…
“I don’t know anything about anything anymore.”
I’m still very much interested in hard truths and facts and strive to approach the world with a childlike sense of wonder and curiousity, hopefully learning more and more each passing day, while trying to be humble. Maintaining an open mind to new material is important, along with a willingness to change my mind if things change.
This forum has been a great resource and I’ve learned, and continue to learn a lot here!
I’m rambling again… sorry…. What is it they say? An empty wagon rattles the most?
Thank you to all!

Yes agree this message board has a number of those (quote trolls, griefers) I would say about 4 fairly obnoxious active ones (decided to block them). I have decided go to more of a lurker / in the background operational (intel) mode. Then perhaps occasional short, concise post.

The change over to the current board was around October 2016. I think the missing posts might have later gotten resolved.
But there is a bigger reason why the mathematical ratios may not indicate much. That is because the current system of points and stars for agrees, likes and badges did not exist until 2016.
So all the older posts before then were not going to get any points unless someone found it later and clicked like or agree. The number of old posts did count for certain badges as did other things adding up to a few points. Somewhere there is a thread where the points and badges were figured out.
Earlier members who passed away, were banned or just have not posted much after 2016 can show few if any points even with a large post count. One example is @Russ who stopped posting in 2014 with 48,514 posts and has only 230 points from some automatic badges and a few likes and agrees in posts marked years later.
The only use for any mathematical ratios might be in comparing members who both arrived after October 2016.

The focus upon points and resultant stars is misguided and essentially meaningless.
