1. HOW TO SAFELY RAFT THROUGH ICEBERGS & RAPIDS AS SHOWN BY ALASKAN RIVER GUIDE AT THE GLACIER

This expert Alaska River Guide has been negotiating the icebergs of Spencer Lake and the rapids of the Placer River for 17 years and has only once been immersed in the 36 degree F water, and that was during a training exercise.

Watch as River Guide Illiya instructs and demonstrates from a moored raft how to safely ride through the icebergs. In the background is seen the majestic Spencer Glacier fronted by Spencer Lake and icebergs.

Included are safety tips on how to avoid falling into the water and how to safely enter and exit the raft with instruction on how to maintain three points of contact.

Also offered are details relating to the rafting experience ahead on Spencer Lake and its icebergs, Placer River and its rapids and the eventual meet-up with the Alaska Railroad Train.

2. WHILE RAFTING IN AN ICEBERG FIELD THE GUIDE WARNS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ICEBERGS TIPPING & ROLLING

Unexpectedly at any time the massive icebergs that have broken off from Spencer Glacier are prone to tip and roll portending danger to those on the water of Spencer Lake. As such the River Guide advancing our raft advises, “We give them a lot of respect.”

We learn that only 10% of their mass is above the water which reaches down 500 feet to the lake bottom where the icebergs are only temporarily grounded,

This video captures a view from our raft of another raft as it floats close to threatening icebergs in Alaska’s Spencer Lake.

After the camera has zoomed in on the raft in its precarious position, the video pans left to capture an expansive view of Spencer Glacier itself.

4. RAFTING AMONG SPENCER GLACIER'S ICEBERGS ON ALASKA'S SPENCER LAKE

Spencer Glacier was in 1907 named after Edward A. Spencer, a time keeper for the initial railroad in Alaska, who fatally fell into a crevasse of the glacier in 1905.

In this video the glacier, which rises 3,500 feet above the water, is viewed while rafting along side icebergs on Spencer Lake that broke off from the glacier.

5. RAFTING THROUGH AN ICEBERG FIELD AT ALASKA'S HIDDEN Spencer Glacier

Secluded and hidden Spencer Glacier reachable only by rail is fronted by a lake filled with treacherous icebergs.
