This Ike dollar came up yesterday on eBay with a BIN of $24.99
I couldn't hit the purchase button quick enough!
I paid and everything went through.
Here is the listing:
A few minutes later I see a refund by eBay followed by a note to the seller stating he
had received a "slew of messages" from other collectors regarding this Ike.
It was then immediately re-listed as an auction.
With six days to go, here is where it stands:

I am not even mad. I don't blame the seller one iota.

That would have been one heck of a buy. Good on you for not being upset about it.
I would be upset - slightly. A BIN is a BIN. Seller remorse is on him/her.

Other than the BIN price was so out of line with reality.
I won't be surprised if this one closes over 1K.

This is an example of a seller not doing the work needed to become knowledgeable about what you are selling. The seller chose to sell on EBay via a listing that had a BIN feature. Braddick pressed the BIN button to purchase the coin at the seller's price and sale format.
Thereafter the seller received messages informing him that the specific coin is worth much more than the BIN price.
What does the seller choose to do after being so informed?
The seller chooses to not do the right thing (honor Braddick's purchase), cancel the sale and relist the coin in an auction format in order to get paid a much higher price.
Though the seller has the power to cancel the sale and relist the coin, the seller does not have the legal right to not complete the sale to Braddick. Braddick has been damaged by the seller not completing the sale. Braddick has been deprived of the benefit of his bargain.
Braddick could choose to pursue his legal remedies (perhaps in the Judge Judy TV show where the buyer and seller present their claims and defenses to Judge Judy for decision; that would be entertaining
).
In any event, word of what the seller has chosen to do in this situation will be remembered by those who become aware of what has happened. Bad karma will likely visit the seller multiple times in the future.

I suspect I bought a coin where this happened, only my coin shipped. Tracking info was great for 2 days, until it showed as "intercepted". Notes said shipper changed delivery. They were too late though and I ended up getting the coin!
I do suspect that other Ebay users reached out to the seller offering more $$, which is why they caught it and tried to get it back.
I did follow-up with the seller when he stated a refund would be pending with Paypal and I did state I would offer him more.
He stated he wanted to change/switch to an auction format "to be fair to all bidders."
I was a bit annoyed I wasn't offered the courtesy of offering him much more via eBay as he had many other listings with BINs and I would have gladly paid him 10Xs his original BIN price.
@braddick what was the story with the two 1982 Washington Commems? Was that canceled because it was part of the same order?

If I were the buyer, among other things, i would have told the seller that if he really cared about being “fair”, he would have honored the terms of the sale and not cancelled the transaction.

Yes. Both were canceled as I paid for both at the same time (in my cart).
I could have repurchased the Commemoratives yet kind of had a sour taste in my mouth and the enjoyment of buying them had faded.
Life is short. We all make mistakes. Sometimes a do-over is appropriate.
This is the empathy I had toward the seller.
I do wish he was a bit more transparent with me though during the refund process.

Has anyone here been in this situation, complained to Ebay, and was able to purchase and receive the coin at the original price?

You seem to find some nice BINs, how many hours a week are you checking new listings?
I dislike ebay so much it isn't funny, and I virtually never use it. My last purchase attempt was a similar story, although not for being a doily holder. It was simply a coin that had been misattributed that I BINed immediately. Then of course, it was suddenly cancelled later on that day for being "no longer available". Obviously, the seller got tipped that it was a rare variety and withdrew it.

Don't forget that a number of ebay buyers obviously contacted the seller after Braddick completed the bin and told the seller they would like a chance at this coin.
How many here would not contact an ebay seller if they just saw a coin end with a bin minutes ago for a ridiculously low price that was wanted or needed for your set?
I love a cherry pick as much as anyone else, but I understand and it seems the op does as well that this just goes with the territory.
In my opinion, the only person who did nothing wrong was @braddick.
Admittedly, however, I might feel differently if someone with no interest in the item contacted the seller.

100%. I cherrypick is always risky until the coin(s) show up in the mailbox.
There are a number of obstacles to overcome before it is a done deal.
The above is simply one of the more difficult ones to get past.

Yes, how true.
But, that holder is now like poison to me personally. I wouldn’t buy it for $2 unless it was clearly understood it being sent to its rightful owner (Braddick) IMHO. I frankly don’t understand Pat’s feelings on this subject whatsoever other than it probably adds 5-10 years onto his life! 😉

Not only would I not do that, it wouldn't even occur to me to try.
I get my share of good/excellent deals, and I've seen others do the same. I would expect a closed listing to be honored, not subject to post-sale meddling by others. That stands whether I am the lucky buyer or the unhappy person who missed out.
But maybe I'm in the minority on the issue (?).

Count me in for 10% of the cost of that gift! But, I believe our Message Board King should write the seller and negotiate the fairest price that dealer is willing to go to close the auction, DO THE RIGHT THING and send it to Braddick!

I'd like to think I'd have reacted as graciously as @braddick but in reality I likely wouldn't have.
You have to look at the other side of the coin. The seller shouldn’t have to take a gigantic loss of profit because he didn’t realize the true value of the coin. A fair solution would be the seller selling it to Braddock for a discounted price. Why punish the seller if he wants to cancel the sale if it’s causing him great harm to go through with it. I think any rational person would cancel the sale if informed that he is making a huge financial mistake by selling the coin. $25 for a $1000 coin is fair?
The dealer was presumably making a reasonable profit at the originally listed price. What about the person that originally sold the coin to the dealer? Should that person not realize a reasonable price for the coin simply because the dealer that they sold it to, didn’t do proper research to make a fair offer to that customer? I realize I am making a lot of assumptions here.
If the listing was added as a BIN as a mistake instead of an auction, I don’t see anything wrong with the seller refunding and relisting. If the refund was given b/c the seller was informed after the sale that it was worth more, that stinks.

One time a well respected dealer posted a wonderful coin at a price that I thought was way too low. I called to order the coin and then they later said to me that the price was not correct. Rather than fighting them on it as it was listed below their cost. I told them that I wanted to buy the coin and let me know the price. They gave me a very fair price and the transaction was closed. I am happy with the coin and the dealer made money on the transaction. Both parties are happy.

When I was younger and in a different life I did a fair amount of buying from this place.
I watched this place attempt to rip off this old man... he had 75k in Gold Eagles with receipts that he had bought over time...
He went in to sell his gold... this was during the financial crisis of 2009/2010..
The guy was offered 90% of gold. The old man was visible Shaken and upset... I waited outside the store and approached the guy and facilitated the sell of his gold to my local guy in a town over.
Beachcomber was in a mall and they were notoriously shady. They buy a lot of stuff from the local addicts (or at least they used to) and I do not make this comment in judgement. I have known that life as well.
Just FYI... not the most scrupulous guy...
