Post Trueview Image Of Your PCGS Certified 1909-S or 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent

Trueviews only, please. If not comfortable posting the Trueview with its certification number here just blot the number out before posting. UPDATE 7/22/24- Images of 1909-S without V.D.B. are welcome to post in here in addition to 1909-S V.D.B.

Here is my 1909-S V.D.B. It has 's' position, "PCGS #4". #4 position is the lowest and farthest right of the four known 's' positions for the 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln cent variety. PCGS #4 was also used to make 1909-S cents without V.D.B.

I should add that it has deep valley on the "N" in UNITED. The reverse of this coin as posted by Old Collector can be seen in Stefanie's thread, entitled "Copper for the weekend."

    Old Collector, what is the official grade of your 1909-S without V.D.B.? It's gem bu to my eyes. <3
    Was it struck slightly off center?

    One can see the "dot" within the upper serif of the 's' on Old Collector's piece. A tiny part of the punch used to make the 's' chipped off to produce this anomaly. All genuine 1909-S cents have the dot but it may not be visible on some pieces because of wear, dirt in the 's' loops, or damage to the mintmark.

    Lovely. My favorite 's' position as seen on 1909-S cents. I'm currently working on assembling a set of all six known obverse die varieties for 1909-S V.D.B. and 1909-S without V.D.B. I've got two of the six, need four, so it's going to be a while. This particular 's' position, as seen on rnkmyer's piece, is not as commonly seen as any of the other five known 's' positions, except for maybe PCGS #1, which is really,really scarce seen on 1909-S with V.D.B. I believe that the FLFR #6 (Harsche) obverse die was the last one used to make 1909-S cents without V.D.B. 1909-S V.D.B. obverse from die #6 is unknown.

    Ah, I forgot that I do have a 1909 TV, the 1909 VDB DDO FS-1101. A senior moment, those happen occasionally. ;)

    That's right. No Truview image was ever available for #38363500. This number was removed from the PCGS database after it was determined the piece had a masterfully added V.D.B., rendering it a counterfeit. The OP piece, #44090046, is its replacement. I like to think #38363500 is being used as a teaching tool at PCGS but I don't know for a fact that it is.

    Thank you for posting the Truview of your 1909 V.D.B. DDO FS-1101, the very first Lincoln cent DDO. The error is visible to the naked eye on new or lightly worn pieces and is seen as quite dramatic when viewed under magnification. Can be cherry-picked at shows to this day.

    These are the two 1909-S VDBs that I currently own for a very short while yet, as both are consigned to GC in short order. MS66BN and MS64+BN, both PCGS CAC. Kind regards, George / VDB Coins
