New Morgan Dollar Sample Slab Pickup

Here's a new addition to my sample slab collection I got earlier today. It's listed as NGC 4.2 on sampleslabs.com (Cameron Keifer's original site) with only the discovery example known at that time (October of 2004, also an 1887), along with 4-5 graded MS60. Also interesting is that while not a rare VAM, it is a VAM-12A Alligator Eye.

    Send it to cac. A sample slab with a gold sticker would be distinctive

    I doubt if very many of those were made. A sample slab with a Morgan Dollar is an unusual item.

    They still sticker but if you aren’t a current member you’ll have to go through a dealer.

    I recall reading that they stopped accepting sample slabs for stickering (plenty of golds used to come from the NGC MS 60 sample Peace Dollars).
    Hopefully someone can confirm or refute this recollection as I can't seem to find the post/info.

    Christian: Nice. CAC is still running the stickering operation out of NJ. The slabbing is in Virginia Beach. There are a few samples I've seen with Gold stickers. The samples with the MS60 (placeholder) grade are definitely undergraded. Not sure if they will sticker samples anymore.

    NGC made these, but because they used the 199999- cert# for many different samples, it's impossible to determine the population. My best guess is these were dealer samples and not necessarily preserved.

    NGC-100-3-1 is the green/gray label MS 60 NGC variety, known in 1883-O, 1884-O, 1885-O, 1887, 1888-O, 1900, with without OakTree stickers

    NGC-100-3-2 is the grey/brown label MS 63 variety, known in 1886, 1887

    NGC-100-3-4 is -2 with "NGC" after the grade like -1 1885-O, 1887

    According to the database, 199999- possibly an edition of "SAMPLE" graded 20 pieces, but only -001 1923, -011 1881 Morgan, and -020 1922 are found).

    199999- was used for Roosevelt dimes and some foreign coins too.
