Your thoughts.

I picked up these two 1964 Kennedy half dollars a year or two ago at a local show solely because of the Pretty Colors.

I am attracted to and repulsed by these coins, at the same time :)

    Artificial toning in spades.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    The more deeply toned one looks AT to me. In the images, it looks like the colors sit on top of the surfaces, instead of being more organic with them. The color combination is unusual, and to have it so strong on both sides I think is more likely to be AT. Not sure what to make of the lighter one, except that regardless of the toning's origins, it negatively affects the coin's eye appeal.

    Edit. I only looked at the first one on my phone. First is AT but the lighter one is likely MA but not worth any significant premium based on those photos and I am not sure it is worth grading.

    It appears that NT is not in the cards. I agree :)

    I think both are AT, likely produced by heating and or touching electrically charged wires to the coins.

    The lighter coin has an aquamarine green blue color to it that does not show well in the photos.

    The splotches on the reverse of the 2nd coin make me think artificial toning as well.

    I think the first coin is definitely AT. The second coin is suspect to me and I don't like the spots... they're showing up green on my phone and looks more like PVC damage than toning to me...

    I've rarely suggested dipping coins on the Forum, but I think these two would benefit from a quick dip and a judicious rinse...

    I sort of like the second one, and do not care for the first one.

    The 1964 Kennedy (and 1964-D) frequently seems to be a coin one can find with "fancy" toning and I own a whole bunch that would vary from shoe-in for certification to highly questionable, even though I feel pretty confident all acquired their color through non-unscrupulous means. I've shown quite a few of them on these forums over the years.
