Does This Dime Have a Very Small Clip?

ShurkeShurke Posts: 782 ✭✭✭✭✭

Not my coin, not considering purchasing it. Just came across it and am curious if I’m correct in thinking that the small irregularity in the rim is due to a very minor clip in the planchet.

Yes. Commonly called a "rim clip" because it only affects the rim. They are cute but generally not worth too much of a premium.

That's actually a very cool rim clip. Interesting that it shows less clip at the center than the two corners. I think that may indicate it was a straight clip versus a curved one.

Note there is a small amount of weakness on the obverse opposite the more obvious reverse weakness.

Yes as others have already said, it is a small rim or disc clip. Most of the ones I have seen on Mercs are from Philadelphia, that your coin is from San Francisco makes it even cooler.
