I would have to say that my biggest jump in grade had to have been going from 8th grade to 9th. It was a tough freshman year. OOPPPPPPSSSS :D Coins. Sorry, I never had any upgrades from what I have now.

AU58 to MS63... we're not talking huge sums of money here...

The Garrett 1804 $1 was grade XF40 by QDB in 1980 and brought $400K. My syndicate bought in 1985 for $180K for its location in the condition census and sold it a few weeks later for $200K. It later graded AU55 at NGC and auctioned a few years ago at $1,840,000 (IIRC).

So we've got a fifteen point jump if you're a double surrealist.

Maybe a dozen years ago I saw a proof Barber half go PCGS 67, 65(!), 66, frustration NGCPF68 then a few years later Gene Gardner crossed the semi-reflective jewel to PCGS PR68.

    OLD THREAD ALERT

Was the Garrett 1804 ever in a PF-58 holder somewhere along this long, strange journey? iF SO, WHEN, PLEASE?

As a relative newb compared to you guys, I read this and lose a lot of faith in TPGs. The whole point of these is so a buyer knows what they are getting, now .... not so much.

I have a coin that went from Raw to PF69CAM.

A 69 point increase, plus the CAM designation B)

1957 Franklin in an older NGC holder MS65 to a newer gen holder 67FBL.
Also another NGC jump I had was a proof three cent nickel. I forget the date. But it went from a 63 to 64 ULTRACAM. The one point jump is t anything crazy, but having the UCAM added was a surprise.

What you’re getting NOW in a particular slab is, for now, what it is.
You bought it at that grade, you can sell it at that grade.

But the fact is that some coins may end up later in a slab (sometimes from the same grading service), displaying a different grading opinion.

    The key word here is:
    opinion.

I've heard rumors lately a dealer got a walker to go from 4 to 8. Big move in both points and value.

Best I've personally ever done was 58 to 65 on a buffalo nickel that was clearly misgraded.

I had a Bust half that I graded XF40 raw. It wasn't very attractive so no one bought it off the website or at shows. So I sent it in and it got PCGS MS62 and it was one of the finest of that variety.
