1829 Bust half

I picked up this 1829 Bust half today at a flea market. I assume no better variety.

That's a nice coin for a flea market. My luck hasn't seen anything old and decent in my years of going.

I'm not sure it would straight grade considering the marks to the right of the bust.

At first glance those marks to the right of the bust look like dentils from an off center strike that was almost completely obliterated by a centered second strike. Does the coin show any more signs of that in hand?

I think that is exactly what that is! Heck of a flea market find!

    @jacrispies what do you think?

I agree. Looks to be double struck.

Some big flea market finds as of late.
Y’all are brave and I commend you!

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

Note the scalloped marks, these I are the dentils from the original, off-centered strike. The coin was then struck again, properly centered this time, and this second strike apparently obliterated the original detail other than these dentil marks.

I don't see how those pics are good enough to draw that conclusion definitively.

Is that graffiti in the left obverse field?

Not seeing it; just stray marks.

The pics ARE good enough to show dentils that should not be there.

Complete double strike, obverse was the hammer die for this marriage. All details were obliterated by the second strike except the small row of dentil tracks.

Tough sell as a double strike to most because there are few details left, but a fun curiosity nonetheless. Total win!!

Could this be off center clash marks? It looks much like this.

Nope, the marks on your coin are raised. Dentil tracks are incuse and flush with the surface and no displaced metal.
Here is a dentil tracked coin with a little detail from the undertype. I believe it is a flip over double strike. Dentil tracks in the eagle's shield and detail in the upper legend (OF AM).
