Butternut.org Large Cents any info?

RLSnapperRLSnapper Posts: 526 ✭✭✭✭✭

So I just received this nice 1851 N-37 Large Cent. The seller included an envelope from Butternut.org with all the provenance of the coin. The envelope states this is the EDS and is rare.
Just one problem...I can't match up any of the provenance. The Goldberg 63 sale doesn't match.....the reference to the John McBride sale 6/20/20 I can't locate.

The Butternut envelope is legit...I have one from a Steve Ellsworth Cent and the handwriting is the same.

Does anyone have any backstory on Butternut? The website has been down for a while.
Thanks

!

I have never bought from him, I have heard a few less than nice stories about him but do not know if any of that is true or not. Just to clarify, by some stories I am referring to stories about his personality not about any business practices.

You can find an archived version of butternut.org on archive.org.
Here is a 2008 archive. The inventory list works.

    .
I was looking in the same place.
Here is a website archive which appears to be about the same from 2001 to mid-late 2010's where it then has similar information but a different format and location. Below this is one of the years About page and credentials.

EDIT to change to website links. (just looks better)

I am pretty sure he had a table at the most recent Baltimore show.

And it looks like table 908 at the central states in a couple weeks.

Is he the dealer who has an All-State show case filled with loose large cents for collectors to pick thru??

I assume his provenance records would be accurate.
My personal experience is that his EAC grades are the loosest among the major dealers. But as yours is slabbed, it’s irrelevant. And I’ve only bought slabbed cents from him.

Yes, he is, or at least has done so at multiple shows.
