NEWP: GTG 1884 (P) Morgan Dollar

Just received this OGH PCGS Morgan. It is in a DMPL holder but it is probably PL or even Semi-PL. I'm not asking you guys to weigh in on that as it's too hard from photos. What about the number grade?

    MS64 PL.
    Could even be 65 - would need to see it in-hand to be sure.

    It looks worse in the picture than in person, but it is that typical "white fog" you notice on these sometimes. You can only notice it when it catches the light just right.

    Thank you. In that case, I’ll guess MS65 PL. If it weren’t present, I’d go 66 or 66+.

    Yep, I think it's a 65 all day long with how clean the devices and fields are. DMPL, probably not though.
    There's pretty good price increase from 64DMPL to 65DMPL ($1350 --> $4500). I think I will send this in for reconsideration.

    Based on the slab, I suspect this one was graded about 30 years ago (+/- a few years but no more than 3-4).

    I like the coin... 65PL seems reasonable and perhaps 65DMPL is reasonable. My point is that obtaining a DMPL grade at that time had a greater probability than today. If this were resubmitted, it seems the end result might be disappointing. I would consider a CAC opinion if that is still a thing. I would do that before a reconsideration based on the slab and when I suspect it was graded.

    CAC won't sticker it for not being DMPL. I don't know for sure, but that's usually the case.

    PCGS will not down downgrade the designation unless they want to make a payout under the guarantee, and they don't want to make a payout.

    Reconsideration will get you to a 65PL IMO.
    I would leave it alone.
    Doesn't hurt to try though...
