On your PCGS coin submissions, what are the highest MS, PF and SP grades you have received?

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 11,736 ✭✭✭✭✭

I started submitting coins for grading in 2021 (the earliest date of the submitted coins is 1794 and the latest date is 1983, with the majority being 20th century coinage).

My highest straight grade results are:

Pre 1968 coins.

Circulation strike - MS67 on a 1943 Cent.

Proof - PF68 on a 1963 Quarter, PF69CAM on a 1963 Quarter and PF68+DCAM on a 1964 Dime.

SP - SP68 on a 1965 dime and SP67CAM on a 1967 Quarter, on a 1967 Dime, on a 1966 Half and on a 1967 Half.

1968 forward coins.

Circulation Strike - MS66 on two 1969 P quarters and MS66 on a 1983P quarter.

Proof - PF69DCAM on a 1968S dime.

As for my lowest straight grade result, it is an AG3 1798/7 Large cent.

For the coins you have submitted what are your best grading results?

I have never submitted a proof or SP so the best grade I have received is MS67RD for a Lincoln cent. I have achieved that grade level at both P and N a few times.

Great Question. I had several early proof cents submitted with the highest graded being Proof 68 RED for a 1953 Re Engraved Die FS-401. This was cracked out of a PR 66 PCGS holder. It remains Top Pop. My highest circulation grade would be a 1987 D RPM 3 which I bought raw and it graded 67+. That coin still remains Top Pop but I traded it for a MS 67 example plus another coin to an avid variety collector. And I never got higher that a SP 68 on any raw 2009 series cents I submitted.

I’ve received MS69 and PF70DCAMs before, but only on mint products not meant for circulation. For actual coins meant for circulation I received a bunch of MS66s, but never higher

I've a few MS67+ silver Roosies that I submitted. I have never sent in any modern stuff or proof coins.

I only have a handful of submissions in my entire history of collecting, so it’s a small sample size. The highest grade was an MS 66 Morgan (toner that was a crossover from NGC). The rest that straight graded (combo of raw and crossover) were all AU 58-MS 64+ for various toners. The details coins were all UNC details.

I got an MS66FB on a 45 Merc once that I picked up for less than $20 at a local shop once and a PR69DCAM on a 69 Washington from a proof set purchased from Alan Hagar on EBay. At the time, it was a pop 24/0 coin.

    Highest grade I've gotten in my 36-42 proofs was a PR67+ on a 1937 10c.
I can't seem to break the PR66RD barrier on cents but did get a PR66+RD on a 1941.
Highest graded Franklin half was a PR68DCAM 1958
Highest MS grade was a 72-S Ike that graded MS68+, probably lives in a 69 holder by now wherever it is.

    A 45-P? That's huge!

In 25 years plus of submitting coins, I received two upgrades from MS 66 to MS 67 on a 38 D Buff and a 17 S Type I SLQ. Not a good track record, I'm afraid.

I'm sure I have no idea. I'd know I'd rather get an MS 65 on a 1925-S Peace dollar than an SP70+*DPMLRDFSBFHFSFBL grade on a modern whatchamacallit.

My biggest high grade score was a 1942 set that had a PR68 half and a PR67+ quarter and dime.

MS67 is the highest I've gotten on my CC Morgans. No SP or Proof coins.
MS67 is also the highest I've gotton on non CC Morgans.
I've had one raw Proof Morgan that I submitted for restoration that came back a PF63.
    Never submitted a SP.
    The CC was an '84
The non CC was a '79
    The Proof was a '83.

My best was a pink and powder blue toned 1971-D Ike dollar I had purchased raw at a Long Beach coin show. I splurged and did a one-day walk-though and later that afternoon I owned a 1971-D Ike in MS67.
Such a beautiful coin. This was 20+ years ago and I wonder today where that Ike dollar is as I have never seen it again after selling it.

    Fun thread.

I am glad I sent it back to the top. Maybe this time it will get some legs and have a good run.

MS66 from NGC on an 83CC GSA holder Morgan.
PF 65 from PCGS on an 1884 Liberty nickel.
I don’t submit any moderns, the latest dates probably being some pre-1940 walkers.

I had a 1939-D Mercury dime upgrade from MS68+FB CAC to MS69FB. Didn't sticker when sent back to CAC as a 69.
