That looks very cool and I have actually never seen this design before. Thank you for showing it to us.

This is a nice strike. Usually the features of the bust are not as clear. Great coin.

I seem to remember Dave Akers remarking in his intoductory comments at the Pittman sale about collecting Mexican 8 Reales by date. Something like "if you want to really drive yourself crazy", or "you would have to be crazy". Was anyone here at that sale? Do you remember that?

I recently got back from PCGS a submission of (10) 8 reales cap /rays

    This was for crossover .

All coins submitted were in NGC holders .

    I was two for 10 .

    Lousy

Well the example posted above is absolutely lovely.
I imagine that you have an idea going into the submission X percent solid cross, X percent maybe and similarly one or two unlikely but hopeful. If so, out of the ten what were you thinking, are far as a number, 5? 6? 7?, were solid to cross.

Given that you have crossed numerous coins over the years, do you have the sense things are tighter currently? Or is it a matter of just unfortunate luck on this particular submission.

i was hoping for 4-5 to absolutely cross. One that did not cross was a NGC 65 + that I asked to be crossed at a 65.

A blazer it was a mid earlier date. But nooooo......

I think they are tighter so much so it may be the last time I do this !!

I don't know that I would have been confident on the 63, maybe I'd think otherwise if seen in hand.
I'd love to see that NGC65+ if you get the chance. It should tell the story.

Upcoming Rutherford collection has PCGS 55 specimen of this date ,

    Here is my mine.

    PCGS 64

Can someone tell me why the Rutherford speciman in PCGS 55 sold for $12,000 all in ?

Was it a different variety from the one I own?

    PCGS says both are 1860-Oa AE 8 R Oa04 Eagle of 1859-1860.

    Is that so ?

I have no idea but I'm going to link the coin and add the pictures.

Also your post above is a little confusing in that you say "Here's mine" but posted the TV of the 55

    MS 64 COIN

Where are you seeing the differences?
Beyond accounting for the difference due to strike.

Here depicted with yours as a transparency over the colorized 55, lines up

Same thing only I left the 55 as normal and colorized the transparency.

I agree the strike is stronger on the one in Stacks auction.

Also, PCGS does state they are both
    eagle of 59-60 .

    I’m not sure that’s correct .

Why would the one in Stacks that just auctioned for 12k bring so much ?

I don't see any difference beyond strike. The overlays, see above, match very tightly.
However, I have zero expertise on these coins, or any coins really, and you are the one who would know best.
