True story.
In the fall of 1979 my future wife won the "Prettiest girl in F HALL complex" contest. (Involved a sophisticated system of girl's pictures in the lobby and the number of check marks.)
Being super shy she would not come out of her dorm room and collect her prize. (A six pack, warm, of Buckhorn beer, a plastic daisy bouquet and a cheap tiara)
2 girls from my high school called me and told me to get her out. I am famously not shy.
After getting her out (long story), I took her out for pizza.
I asked her to tell me three important things I should know about her. Which she did.
She told me she came from a large Catholic family I would regret meeting. True.
She suffered a massive stroke when she was 16 and had just learned to walk again only a few months before.
She was a die hard Twins fan and didn't plan on changing.
Then she asked me the same.
I told her I had just a few months earlier turned down a full ride scholarship to go to Texas and become a Presbyterian minister. (Required a 10 year commitment to return to home church.)
I told her I too had a large annoying family and bet her my mother was crazier than hers. She won that bet.
I then told her I was going to business school because I was going to become a rare coin dealer.
She asked: "Have you ever known anyone who is a rare coin dealer?" "No."
"Do you know anyone now who is a rare coin dealer?" "No."
"Do you know how much money a rare coin dealer makes?" "I told her it probably varied, but no."
"She asked if I knew whether anyone was taking on new rare coin dealers?" "I said I didn't know if it worked that way."
Then she said, "I can't comment on becoming a minister but if I were you I wouldn't give up on praying just now."
It was a lie. I never became a rare coin dealer. James14 -

A customer came into my shop looking for some rare coins. He looked at my stock and with a snort of derision he said that by looking in my showcases I was nothing more than a two-bit collector. I was so enraged that I thumped him over the head with a sack of quarters.
