Nothing like walking into a LCS and immediately hearing the mustard-stained old timer in the back loudly bragging about how much he ripped someone off. As if we can't hear you! Integrity matters. This has legit happened to me at least twice in my life (ironically, both as a YN/YN-ish).
Coin dealer I used to buy paper from in the 90s and early 2000's would overgrade his notes, using the old Greensheet grading standards as his "validation".
He would try to tell you that multiple folds were "wrinkles" and allowed on UNC notes, and get angry if you didn't agree with him. I remember seeing notes that were VF at best graded UNC in his case. "Mishandled UNC" was another favorite term of his for both coins and paper that were damaged but still priced at full retail.
Funny thing, a Mercedes dealer once told me his salespeople rush over to prospective clients that are not well dressed as they are the ones who have the money and don't need to impress anyone.
…..LOL….not here in SE Florida where I live. I went looking for a nice MB several years ago…..and drove to the dealership in my ‘beater car’ with 320,000 miles on it. After 30 minutes my stepdaughter who was with me said, ‘I can’t believe they are ignoring you because of the car you arrived in when you came ready to buy a new car and write them a check for it!’ Went on eBay and bought EXACTLY what I had been looking for….from an absolutely amazing car dealer in Atlanta….and have been extremely happy ever since. 😉

I told another dealer, that I do business with, about what had happened. He said tell me who it was, and I will go straighten him out. I said never mind it is not worth it.
A dealer at a show once pressed me if I had anything for sale. I hesitated, pulled out some nice AU pre-1940 D and S mint marked walkers. “Bah, I got rolls of that crap back at shop”. Really, rolls of AU ‘35S walkers, I said, looking at the VF common dates in his case….you should have brought them. “Hey, I can’t bring everything!”

When I was quite a bit younger.... asked a dealer to look at a coin in his case. He started to open the case.... then looked back at me, paused, then said "don't waste my time". Closed and locked the case, and turned his back to me without another word. (no one else was at his table). OK.... ...I was dumbfounded and walked away.
Many years and coins later, and many dollars spent.... but never with that dealer. Always walked right by his table, and could feel his eyes following me, like he wanted to say something.... but never did, nor I to him. Never stopped at this table again.... didn't want to waste MY time ya know!
I had a dealer once try to tell me that a heavily whizzed coin was not only PQ but worth strong money because of the strong luster. Mind you it was an old ANACS XF45 details holder (net VF) holder. It was an interesting variety that I might have picked it up for cheap but he had it for UNC money and that was his response when I asked about the price. I have no idea if he was full of BS or believed it, not sure which would be worse.

Yep! Not naming names but he's one of them. The other one ran me off from his table many years ago for cherrypicking, even though I'd been a frequent customer. When he did, I was going through a bin of loose Morgan dollars priced by the each and he said "Oh those aren't for cherrypicking- you can't look through those." Throughout the rest my time at the show I saw several others going through the bin and examining them. I haven't been back to his table since.

After looking at a good deal of coins at a store, the dealer said "I've got a gorgeous 1921 Peace dollar to show you". Well, he brings out this gorgeous 1921 dollar, but I'm waiting for his reaction and after about 5 minutes I say to him "it's a Morgan, not a Peace dollar" to which he replies "that's right! How could I have been so stupid". Needless to say, I didn't comment further.

I was finalizing the purchase of a PCGS ms63 toned Canadian coin (at the Buffalo coin show) and the dealer said "oh, I really hate to let this one go" and as we completed the deal, as he handed me the slab, he KISSED it and said 'goodbye beautiful coin!"....I was totally repulsed and I thought to myself, there's a lot of weirdos in this world...... (I also quickly sterilized the slab for 'coin nerd' germs).

It was about 25 years ago at the annual show at the Erie fairgrounds (I think?) however, I have no idea who the dealer was.

I was looking to free up some cash and brought a selection of XF-AU PCGS bust coins to a local dealer, with a greysheet of about $9500. Was offered $1300. "Early US type isn't really in demand at the moment." This was 2018 which was a quieter market, but I still don't know what he was thinking with an offer like that.
Among other series, I collect Trade Dollars. At a show, I say a dealer with a stack of three 1876-CC Trade Dollars. I asked him if I could look at the stack. He opened his case, then snarled at me and said "There ain't no double die reverse coins there!" I looked at the three and the very first one was a DDR! I thought about pointing out his error, then I decided to just shut my mouth and purchase it from him... at about 1/3 of its actual value.

He pulls a slab out of his pocket and hands it to the other customer, who looks it over carefully.
The customer looks it over carefully and hands it back and the dealer says to me, "Do you want to look?" "Sure..." (I'm at the WFoM to learn and I'll look at and appreciate anything. The dealer hands me a GORGEOUS CC Morgan in MS68. Jaw drop coin.
The other customer says, very nice, but not really for me, what did you want for it? Oh, 90.
I carefully handed it back to the dealer as if it had become a radioactive spider and resumed perusing my $40 coins. $40, not $40k.

I was finalizing the purchase of a PCGS ms63 toned Canadian coin (at the Buffalo coin show) and the dealer said "oh, I really hate to let this one go" and as we completed the deal, as he handed me the slab, he KISSED it and said 'goodbye beautiful coin!"....I was totally repulsed and I thought to myself, there's a lot of weirdos in this world...... (I also quickly sterilized the slab for 'coin nerd' germs).

I was looking to free up some cash and brought a selection of XF-AU PCGS bust coins to a local dealer, with a greysheet of about $9500. Was offered $1300. "Early US type isn't really in demand at the moment." This was 2018 which was a quieter market, but I still don't know what he was thinking with an offer like that.
Among other series, I collect Trade Dollars. At a show, I say a dealer with a stack of three 1876-CC Trade Dollars. I asked him if I could look at the stack. He opened his case, then snarled at me and said "There ain't no double die reverse coins there!" I looked at the three and the very first one was a DDR! I thought about pointing out his error, then I decided to just shut my mouth and purchase it from him... at about 1/3 of its actual value.

See, now, my best experience is exactly the opposite.
I'm at a dealer's table at the ANA WFoM looking at a couple of very modestly priced items when he sees a customer and asks if I'd mind him showing the guy something. "Of course not, I'm mostly just looking."
He pulls a slab out of his pocket and hands it to the other customer, who looks it over carefully.
The customer looks it over carefully and hands it back and the dealer says to me, "Do you want to look?" "Sure..." (I'm at the WFoM to learn and I'll look at and appreciate anything. The dealer hands me a GORGEOUS CC Morgan in MS68. Jaw drop coin.
The other customer says, very nice, but not really for me, what did you want for it? Oh, 90.
I carefully handed it back to the dealer as if it had become a radioactive spider and resumed perusing my $40 coins. $40, not $40k.
